Presence information, in the context of telecommunications, refers to the availability and willingness of the user to communicate by video, messaging, or voice and is indicated by a status. A user can set and allow for others to see their "present state" by means of the network and allow for others to know the availability of that user. Many applications and services take advantage of the "presence information feature" and implement it in their VOIP and mobile clients.
Ribbon's Smart Office implements the use of presence information by allowing the user to disclose whether the user is "Available", "Busy", "On Vacation", "Out to Lunch", and among other options to communicate their communication availability.
