GENBAND and PacketFront Enable VoIP Network for Local Finnish Telecom Operator without Costly Equipment Replacement

Plano, TX, February 11, 2009 - GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of next-generation IP infrastructure solutions, today announced it worked closely with PacketFront to transition local Finnish telecommunications operator Alands Telefonandelslag´s network to VoIP by providing connectivity at the border between the IP and TDM/circuit switched networks through its G2™ Compact Gateway product line. GENBAND’s G2 Compact Gateway cost-effectively brings voice traffic from V5.2 to MGCP, thereby maintaining the operator’s previous investment in their Ericsson AXE10 switch.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with GENBAND and PacketFront to create a cost-effective migration of our network to VoIP,” said Stefan Olofsson, Managing Director at Alands Telefonandelslag. “By leveraging our existing and highly capable Ericsson TDM switching equipment, we have now added new layers of IP services and functionality through the GENBAND gateway. The seamless integration and coordination between these partners enabled us to improve management of our network and the customer experience despite a challenging economy.”

“Alands Telefonandelslag compellingly demonstrates that local operators can deploy appropriately scaled VoIP infrastructures to meet their network evolution needs,” said Pablo Gargiulo, President Global Operations, GENBAND. “We developed the hardened, high-performance, G2 compact gateway for exactly this type of scenario, to enable any local and regional operator to fulfill immediate and urgent network needs.”

The G2 Compact Gateway is a carrier class, multipurpose gateway in an environmentally hardened, small form factor chassis. Purpose-built for highly reliable VoIP, the G2 uses the latest generation of advanced, all-in-one DSPs and platform architecture for high quality VoIP and fax/modem handling. A NEBS Level 3 certified platform, the G2 is fully redundant, produced in a TL9000 quality system and deployable in ILEC, PTT, RLEC, CLEC, and MSO networks. The G2 is stackable and scales to 24 E1/PRI/T1s (to 744 DS0s on E1) in a 2RU chassis.
