Modern Optical Backbone and Network Operations Center (NOC) for DB Systel
Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national railway system, faced the challenge of modernizing their optical backbone network to support the rising telecommunications traffic from the digitalization of their services and operations. Partnering with Ribbon Communications, Deutsche Bahn implemented a modern DWDM optical network featuring a multi-degree ROADM mesh with dynamic wavelength restoration and OTN switching for flexible service routing. This robust and flexible network, monitored 24/7/365 by Ribbon's Network Operations Center (NOC), ensures high availability and scalability to handle future growth. The new optical network supports various business initiatives, including upgrading train stations for WiFi, CCTV, and infotainment, while also offering wholesale capacity and connectivity to other operators. This deployment has enabled Deutsche Bahn to provide secure, high-bandwidth services to employees and customers, ensuring seamless operations and generating new revenue streams
