Another year and another Mobile World Congress has come and gone. With thousands of people attending from across the globe, it’s by far the biggest event in the annual calendar for the industry, and we were delighted to attend once more. For Ribbon, it’s been a great show thanks to the meetings we held with partners, journalists, and potential customers. And let’s not forget the sunny February weather – this time last year Barcelona was freezing with snow!

Among the numerous announcements and insights collected this year, one thing is definite: Mobile World Congress remains at the forefront of telecoms industry discussion. This year talk across the exhibition halls covered the convergence of 5G, AI, and IoT into real-life applications and we were especially excited to see our very own Kevin Riley, Chief Technology Officer, on stage talking to a packed room about the future of security through 5G as it fuels new technologies and services that will merge our real and virtual worlds.

We were also proud to announce three pieces of news at MWC:

1. Ribbon’s Session Border Controller and Policy and Routing  has successfully completed interoperability testing to support a major industry effort named STIR-SHAKEN, designed to help CSPs protect consumers against unwanted robocalls and caller ID spoofing.
2. CommsChoice Group has upgraded to the latest release of Ribbon’s session software solutions with the Session Border Controller Software edition (SBC SWe) on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch its new Teams SIPConnect offering.
3. Ribbon Protect – our advanced security software solution – has been named a winner in the 2019 BIG Innovation Awards.

All in all, we left Barcelona feeling excited for the year ahead, knowing that Ribbon is well placed to address incoming industry challenges. We’re sad to say goodbye, but can’t wait for what awaits us at Ribbon Perspectives19  - our five-day event  from 28 April to 2 May at the JW Marriott Washington, DC - that brings together the brightest minds in the technology, service provider and enterprise communities.
