Ribbon at MWC: Driving Growth through Analytics

February 27th, 2019

Perhaps no industry today is undergoing as dramatic a disruption as the mobile sector, with many telecom providers transitioning from traditional operators to innovators in analytics.

This is clearly apparent at MWC this year as delegates from around the world gather to exchange ideas on what the future holds for telecoms. The show’s theme, Intelligent Connectivity, is most certainly apropos as the goldmine of personal and usage data flowing around networks today is presenting huge opportunities for operators.

The trend now among operators is figuring out how to best monetize and market this data as today’s workforce becomes increasingly reliant on mobile. Central to the success of this is analytics for extracting data and interpreting user behavioral patterns. This will enable operators to implement more customized product engineering and product launches.

Analytics and Machine Learning

Analytics and machine learning also offers operators the capability to monitor the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and identify churn risk as well as customers that can be upsold to. In this respect, operators are in a great position to deliver services in a way that is ultra-reliable and secure, as opposed to OTT providers which are in many cases leveraging the carrier’s network and hoping that the service makes it from end-to-end.

Big data, analytics and machine learning are vital to combatting the ever increasingly complex threats to networks today. Ribbon’s CTO Kevin Riley discussed how this works in practice during his interview with Mobile World Live yesterday, highlighting how operators can make more informed policy decisions and harmonize the behavior of all the security nodes in their networks.
