BT and GENBAND Present New IP Business Communication Services for Business Subscribers in Spain
Madrid, Spain, June 24, 2010 – BT and GENBAND, a leading developer of IP switching solutions and services, presented the latest enhancements to BT iComms Unified Communication service at a special event for corporate customers. BT iComms Unified Communication service allows businesses to enjoy a variety of carrier-hosted IP communication services designed to boost employee productivity and improve the way people communicate and conduct business.
The event took place at the Torre Espacio in Madrid and was attended by enterprise customers of BT in Spain. BT iComms service is powered by GENBAND’s industry-leading carrier-hosted offer, which allows BT Spain to deliver Centrex IP and SIP multimedia services to business subscribers and to offer a broad range of advanced voice and multimedia collaboration tools, such as unified communications (UC), video-conferencing and hosted call centers.
“GENBAND has delivered a cutting-edge solution that has helped us to give business subscribers a more productive communication platform that integrates fixed and mobile communications with other business collaboration tools,” said Jacinto Cavestany, Vice-President of BT Iberia and Latin America. “The new enhancements to BT iComms include advanced voice and multimedia collaboration services such as unified communications, real-time presence and customized Web portal capabilities that allow our business customers to personalize their service, boost employee productivity and essentially allow the user to choose the best form of communication for every moment.”
BT’s new service will help enable businesses to communicate and collaborate with greater flexibility and efficiency by making information easier to share while also reducing travel and expenses through advanced VoIP and teleworking capabilities. For example, business subscribers will be able to launch a voice conference anytime on their own personal conference bridge or run web meetings on their personal web collaboration tool, sharing their desktop, whiteboarding, or running a presentation with colleagues or customers around the globe.
“GENBAND’s carrier-hosted solution equips innovative service providers like BT in Spain to offer subscribers new multimedia applications and productivity tools that enhance existing Business Line, Centrex, or PBX communications services,” said Pablo Gargiulo, GENBAND’s President of Sales. “Our solution scales from thousands to millions of lines and delivers powerful carrier-grade reliability and geographic survivability, which are essential in today’s business environment where success hinges on effective communication and collaboration tools.”

Key features of BT iComms service that were highlighted at the event include:
- Unified Communications (UC), giving business subscribers an advanced communication solution that combines the enterprise's voice, conferencing, presence and mobility applications into a single, converged network. This also includes a PC-based call control capability through the GENBAND Personal Communicator PC client, which allows users to handle incoming calls, view call logs, manage voicemail and send and receive text messages from their PC.
- Multimedia Office Client that allows enterprises to integrate real-time multimedia communications within Microsoft Outlook while also enabling these services to be used with existing business voice systems. This can greatly simplify and enrich the business communications experience.
- Customized Web portal application that allows businesses to create and manage communications services via a personalized Web application. Preferences such as call routing and call blocking can be prioritized for each incoming call.
BT Spain is leveraging GENBAND’s C20™ (previously CS 2000) and the A2™ (previously referred to as the Adaptive Application Engine), both recently acquired from Nortel. GENBAND’s carrier-hosted solution allows carriers to host a plethora of advanced IP communications for enterprises – including mobility, UC, hosted call centers and audio/video conferencing. Another benefit to the solution is that it allows carriers to deliver advanced IP capabilities to business users while simultaneously supporting legacy TDM Centrex which means that businesses can migrate their networks in a phased approach. GENBAND is also providing deployment, integration and configuration services to support BT Spain’s iComms service.
GENBAND acquired substantially all of Nortel's CVAS product portfolio, network management and related services business on May 28, 2010. Following this acquisition, GENBAND has now deployed 200 million VoIP ports, with over 600 customers including two-thirds of the world’s top tier service providers spanning 80 countries. The Company has vast resources in R&D, sales and support spanning nearly 50 countries and delivers innovative IP solutions that lay the foundation for an all-IP future.
