Canadian Telecom Provider Deploys Solutions From Sonus Networks To Support Growing Pre-Paid Phone Service
Gold Line Leverages Sonus Networks' Network Border Switch for Secure, International Long Distance IP Peering
CHELMSFORD, Mass., June 7, 2006 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, announced today that Group of Gold Line (Gold Line), the largest prepaid long distance calling card provider in Canada, which services over 60 percent of the calling card market, has deployed a suite of Sonus' industry-leading IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-ready solutions to support the increased demand for Gold Line's prepaid, private label and promotional calling cards.
Gold Line, which already carries more than 175 million minutes of long distance voice traffic per month, selected Sonus solutions because of their field-proven ability to scale quickly and efficiently in tandem with increasing amounts of IP-based voice traffic, and to allow service providers to rapidly expand into new markets. Gold Line currently leverages a distribution agreement with Western Union, Canada Post, Mac's stores, 7-Eleven, CIBC ATM, Shell, Petro Canada, Esso and over 100,000 independent outlets across North America to carry its popular CiCi Phone Card (CiCi), and/or co-branded calling card programs dramatically increasing its distribution channels across Canada, and has announced plans to expand into several European markets.
“Our goal is to make communications services readily accessible, particularly to newcomers to various regions, who are frequently reliant on pre-paid services,” said Mr. Vivian Clark, Chief Technology Officer, Gold Line. “Gold Line is committed to continuing its legacy of offering low cost, superior quality long distance voice service, and Sonus, which has industry's most robust, scalable, and secure platform, allows us to do just that.”
Gold Line has selected a full suite of Sonus' IMS-ready solutions, including the GSX9000™ Open Services Switch, the PSX™ Call Routing Server and the Sonus Insight™ Management System. In addition, Gold Line will deploy Sonus' Network Border Switch (NBS), which unlike traditional peering and security products such as Session Border Controllers (SBCs), delivers a unique solution that combines session control, PSTN gateway services and security into a single, high performance, carrier-class system.
In addition to the Sonus architecture, Gold Line is leveraging a prepaid calling application from Sonus' industry-leading Open Services Partner Alliance (OSPA). Sonus currently has one of the industry's largest and most successful interoperability partner programs, enabling service providers to take advantage of an extensive suite of IP-enabled voice applications and services.
“Gold Line's range of prepaid calling card services offers end users the flexibility that characterizes today's communications landscape, while their private label and promotional calling cards offer businesses unique branding opportunities,” said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO, Sonus Networks. “With a complete IMS-ready architecture and a broad range of services from its OSPA, Sonus delivers a total solution for addressing this burgeoning market.”
The Sonus-based Gold Line network began to carry live traffic in May 2006.
