COMVERSE FALL VON BOOTH #507/509

Company Achieves Designation as Comverse's Enhanced Services Platform Passes Interoperability Tests with Sonus Products

WESTFORD, Mass., October 15, 2001 – Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading provider of voice infrastructure solutions for the new public network, today announced that Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, has successfully integrated its enhanced messaging services platform with Sonus' PSX6000 SoftSwitch and GSX9000 Open Services Switch.

Comverse earned the "Powered" partner level of Sonus' Open Services Partner AllianceSM (OSPA) by completing a testing process in the Sonus Interoperability Lab in Richardson, Texas. The OSPA's mission is to help empower standards-based interoperability between applications, third-party vendors and Sonus products. Sonus is also a member of the Comverse Spark AllianceSM Program, which promotes cooperation in the development, marketing and delivery of enhanced multimedia communications solutions based on open standards.

"We are pleased that Comverse has moved to the next level in our OSPA program," said Terri Griffin, vice president, marketing, Sonus Networks. "By demonstrating that its enhanced services platform can interoperate with Sonus' industry-leading voice-over-packet infrastructure, Comverse joins a distinguished list of Sonus partners who can meet carriers' and service providers' next-generation network needs today."

Comverse's enhanced services platform for wireless and wireline networks provides call management capabilities, messaging, information services, and personalized features which benefit subscribers by creating a more functional and personal communications environment. Operators benefit from more completed calls, increased airtime, diversified sources of revenue and increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. Comverse's platform enables operators to provide high demand, leading edge solutions such as unified messaging (UM) and multimedia messaging (MMS) with keypad and voice portal operation. It is easy to customize Comverse's solutions for specific markets such as enterprise and prepaid. Comverse's solutions are fully VoIP-enabled, supplying operators with a flexible migration path from circuit switched to full IP telephony, including simultaneous support of both.

"Carriers are looking to leverage the power of IP to deliver feature-rich, enhanced services that add value to the customer experience," said Gidi Be'ery, vice president of marketing for Comverse. "Our open enhanced services platform enables operators to offer a full array of next-generation capabilities. By teaming with Sonus, we can help carriers accelerate deployment of advanced solutions for converged networks via a smooth and quick migration path from circuit switched to VoIP services."

Sonus' PSX6000 SoftSwitch contains all service definitions, service provisioning, call routing and quality of service requirements. This information is used to control the operation of other network elements to ensure consistent application of network service policies. The GSX9000 Open Services Switch is the industry's leading voice-over-packet central office switch that meets the stringent demands of public carrier networks for interconnectivity, capacity, reliability, scalability and voice quality. The PSX6000 and the GSX9000 are key elements of the Sonus Open Services Architecture(TM), an open telephony architecture that addresses a full range of carrier applications, including long-distance trunking, Internet call diversion, H.323 termination, and access services.
