Current Analysis Increases GENBAND Ranking in Threat Analysis Profile for Products/Roadmap and Momentum/Traction

Frisco, Texas, May 16, 2011GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, today announced that Current Analysis, the market leader in competitive response solutions for providers of IT and telecommunications solutions, equipment, and services, has increased GENBAND’s Current Analysis Threat Index rankings in the strategic categories of Products/Roadmap and Momentum/Traction. In the Rating Update Summary of the April 29th GENBAND profile, Current Analysis describes GENBAND as the “fastest-growing company in the telecommunications market” in terms of products and people, following its “transformative 2010 with additional acquisitions and continued product development.”

“With the integration of Nortel’s Carrier VoIP and Applications Solution (CVAS) properties acquired in late May 2010, GENBAND is able to claim the most diverse and comprehensive security and interconnect solution on the market,” said Joe McGarvey, Principal Analyst at Current Analysis. “GENBAND’s portfolio is complemented by market-leading NGN session control technology, an IMS-compatible hosted multimedia application server and traffic and policy management equipment.”

In describing GENBAND’s improved ranking in Products/Roadmap, the profile states that “GENBAND has steadily improved its portfolio over the past few quarters, in several instances infusing acquired products with new functionality or porting to a new platform.”

The Current Analysis profile credits GENBAND for separating itself from standalone solution competitors by strategically assembling products into coherent and comprehensive solutions that are organized under common middleware and controlled under a common management system. “When GENBAND’s entire product pool, such as media gateways, signaling routing and session control, is utilized, the company has few if any rivals that can match its end-to-end offering,” said McGarvey.

The profile highlights the following specific examples of GENBAND improving the functionality of products it has acquired:

  • “The S3 SBC acquired with the purchase of NextPoint was integrated into the ATCA-based GENiUS platform in early 2011, enabling GENBAND to offer nearly an end-to-end IP transformation and security solution on a common platform.”
  • “GENBAND also made great strides in early 2011 in enhancing the A2 application server it acquired with the Nortel transaction. The steady flow of innovation, which includes mobility enhancements, a developer environment and integration with third-party applications, including MobileMax mobile client and StreamWIDE visual voice mail, increase the competitiveness of the product and signal GENBAND’s commitment to the platform.”

With acquisition of the Nortel CVAS business unit, GENBAND significantly strengthened its services and support organization and the profile discusses the key role the services division plays in the company’s IP network transformation strategy: “Having a services organization that has such a deep history in transitioning TDM lines to IP will benefit GENBAND’s product-based PSTN transformation strategy.”

The Current Analysis profile credits GENBAND’s management team for “the bold and aggressive route of building GENBAND into one of the largest telecommunications equipment providers during a period of transition in the sector that most of its rivals have met with caution and modest-in-scope strategic visions.”

Current Analysis concludes the profile stating that “(s)ervice providers and carriers looking for carrier class media gateways, SBCs and FMC/femtocell security gateways should consider the product portfolio offered from GENBAND for its completeness in market coverage coupled with its in-depth ability to provide support for legacy systems and installations as well as packet-to-packet implementations. Few vendors will have as much experience interoperating with a multiplicity of softswitches, CPE, access and other next generation platforms as GENBAND.”

“Our strategic foundation is built upon facilitating network evolution and transformation through cutting-edge IP technology,” said Mehmet Balos, Chief Marketing Officer of GENBAND. “We are pleased that Current Analysis, a respected and independent research firm, has recognized GENBAND’s market leadership and impact. Our comprehensive network transformation portfolio uniquely enables operators to navigate all stages of the IP evolution process, maximizing existing investments while unleashing the benefits of IP innovation.”
