GENBAND and BroadSoft Deliver Legacy Switch Migration Solution
Plano, TX and GAITHERSBURG, MD, June 30, 2009 - GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of IP infrastructure solutions, and BroadSoft, Inc., the leading worldwide provider of VoIP applications, today announced a new set of solutions that enable carriers to upgrade their networks while supporting legacy features. The two companies have integrated GENBAND’s market-share leading gateways with BroadSoft’s world-class suite of hosted telephony and multimedia applications.
In response to carrier demand to migrate aging TDM switches and expand broadband voice services, the two companies have tightly coupled BroadSoft’s BroadWorks® VoIP application platform with GENBAND G9™ and G6® gateways and C3™ Signaling Controller, as well as the S3™ Session Border Controller (SBC). The combined solution offers affordable switch migration that extends beyond legacy functionality, delivering new sources of revenue.
"Previously, switch replacement meant new expenditures without new services,” said David Bukovsky, vice president of products, BroadSoft®. “Unlike other offerings, the GENBAND/BroadSoft solution allows carriers to deliver carrier grade legacy Class 4, Class 5 and voice over broadband services via a single system. Our combined solution enables carriers to reduce operational costs, but more importantly, gain a host of new services for the subscriber base. These new services — such as fixed-mobile integration, hosted unified communications and Web 2.0 integration — improve customer retention and provide new sources of revenue that were previously unavailable.”
“Pairing our market-leading solutions provides operators a unique choice with significant competitive advantages that were previously unavailable,” said Charlie Vogt, president and CEO of GENBAND. “This solution delivers an attractive business case that consolidates legacy network infrastructure, reduces operating costs, allows for limitless flexibility in scaling up or down, all while adding a new layer of revenue generating features and services not offered by competitors.”
When the GENBAND/BroadSoft solution is deployed for TDM switch replacement, carriers can implement a complete next generation voice over broadband network via one integrated platform:
- Residential Broadband — delivering primary-line services to residential consumers and home offices over any broadband or legacy connection, including GR-303, V5.2 and TR-08
- Business Connectivity — connecting legacy Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), such as IP PBX, PBX or Key Telephone Systems, to the PSTN over any form of IP connectivity
- Hosted PBX— delivering a complete suite of enhanced PBX functionality over any IP connection
- IP Peering and Transport — lowering total cost of operation and increasing network efficiency and operational simplicity
“PAETEC’s GENBAND gateway infrastructure coupled with our deployment of BroadSoft application servers have enabled us to create a broad suite of enterprise-focused voice solutions, migrating our customers to next generation voice over IP services,” said Sanjay Hiranandani, senior vice president of engineering at PAETEC. “The solution has helped us significantly reduce our environmental impact, operating costs, and capital investment required to support existing voice infrastructure, and deliver a state-of-the art enterprise focused product set.”
“The GENBAND BroadSoft integration provides a differentiated option for service providers as their Class 5 switches have long since been amortized and are in fact now costing them money in maintenance,” said Jeremy Duke, president & CEO of Synergy Research Group. “While there has been much talk but little movement in TDM switch replacement, the strategic combination of these market-proven solutions should help move the market along because of the rich applications and return on investment it delivers.”
