GENBAND and Polycom Achieve Department of Defense Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) Certification
ORLANDO, FL, May 2, 2016 – GENBAND™, a leading provider of real-time communications solutions, today announced that its combined GENBAND Application Server solution and the Polycom® VVX® voice and video portfolio has successfully achieved certification by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) of the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (“JITC”). The combined solution has been approved as a Local Session Controller for deployment in the United States Department of Defense (DoD) communications networks.
The GENBAND solution provides military-grade resiliency with standards-based SIP-session control that can easily meet the needs of the largest deployments. The open SIP-based technology eliminates proprietary endpoints and applications, enabling choice and competition, reducing the total cost of ownership for SIP or ASSIP endpoints.
The Polycom® VVX® series business media phones deliver industry-leading reliability that meets the stringent requirements established for mission critical voice communications. Additionally, VVX phones unify the industry’s best audio experience resulting from advancements such as Polycom® HD Voice™, with HD video and application capabilities that ultimately drive productivity for customers. The VVX Series also includes next generation echo cancellation and award winning Polycom® Acoustic Fence™ background noise cancelling technology which improves the communication experience.
Many U.S. Department of Defense agencies still use Nortel SL-100, CS 2100 or AS 5300 technology and are seeking cost effective migration paths for their legacy investments. Combining GENBAND’s Nortel heritage and Polycom’s commitment to open standards provides organizations with the new Unified Communications (UC) technology they need without getting locked into another proprietary solution. Together, GENBAND and Polycom have successfully migrated some of the world’s largest civilian agencies, local municipalities, medical facilities, financial institutions and universities.
“Polycom has been a longstanding strategic GENBAND partner, which makes achieving this milestone together even more special,” said Patrick Joggerst, Executive Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing at GENBAND. “Strengthening our relationship with a combined JITC certified offering significantly enhances our ability to provide the Department of Defense and other government agencies with secure, market-proven solutions - delivering the support they need today and a roadmap for future innovation. With JITC certification we’re making it more cost-effective for departments and agencies to migrate to next generation technology that supports their strategic initiatives while making their work environments more collaborative, engaging and productive.”
“Achieving JITC certification is one of the highest honors that a communications solution can attain and speaks to the quality, security, interoperability and reliability that our combined GENBAND-Polycom offering brings to the Department of Defense,” said Sean Berg, Vice President, Public Sector, Polycom. “We are seeing strong demand for market-proven JITC certified solutions that can deliver improved productivity through powerful unified communications capabilities from the cloud or on-premises.”
The Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) is the United States Department of Defense Joint Interoperability Certifier and only non-service level operational test center for Information Technology (IT) and National Security Systems (NSS).
Polycom is a Gold Sponsor of GENBAND’s annual customer and partner summit, Perspectives16, taking place in Orlando, Florida, May 1-5. The GENBAND-Polycom JITC certified solution will be on display at the conference. Paul Davis, Polycom’s Vice President of Global Alliances will deliver a keynote presentation, Tuesday, May 3 at 2:10 pm.

Key Takeaways:
- GENBAND’s Application Server solution and Polycom’s VVX voice and video portfolio has been JITC certified.
- The newly certified solution provides carrier-grade session control capability that offers open IP-based technology. The DoD can significantly reduce operational costs and assure investment protection by having a choice of SIP or ASSIP endpoints.
- The new solution allows the DoD to deliver advanced voice and video capabilities on premises or via private cloud and seamlessly migrate from legacy communications infrastructure to scalable cloud-based IP technology with best-in-class desktop voice and video capabilities.
- GENBAND’s Application Server has the scale to enable agencies and departments to create their own secure private clouds, supporting one or thousands of sites with up to two million users. Most other solutions require regional deployments to overcome scale limitations and require proprietary endpoints to deliver market-appropriate feature functionality.
