GENBAND Continues to Lead Worldwide Media Gateway Market

June 16, 2008, Plano, TX - GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of next-generation IP gateways and applications solutions, today announced that two highly-respected industry research firms recently published 1st quarter market share statistics which report that GENBAND leads multiple segments of the global media gateway market.
A new report from communications market research firm Infonetics Research shows that GENBAND shipped more trunk media gateway ports globally in the 1st quarter than any other of the 25 leading equipment manufacturers participating in the study. According to Infonetics, GENBAND captured a 23% global market share, with shipments increasing 111% quarter over quarter, propelling the company to the top of the market.
“The growth in worldwide next generation voice product sales indicates that the VoIP equipment market is still healthy, and driven by a long term migration from circuit switched to packet telephony,” said Stéphane Téral, principal analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research. “With strong voice over broadband deployments, the trunk media gateway segment reached $364M in the 1st quarter, up 12% from the same quarter last year. GENBAND is really shaking up this segment, taking a commanding lead over its next closest competitor.”
“It’s a major achievement to lead this growing, dynamic market segment,” said Mehmet Balos, GENBAND’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “This momentum shows the strength of GENBAND’s media gateway portfolio and our ability to support the evolution from TDM to IP and Next Generation Networks. Our recent acquisition of NSN’s hiG gateways and our strengthened relationship with ALU will further extend our global reach and strengthen our position going forward.”
In a separate report covering the Mobile Wireless Core and Access Market, Synergy Research Group again named GENBAND as the global market share leader for wireless VoIP media gateway ports shipments. The Synergy study, which included all significant providers of media gateway equipment, concluded that GENBAND captured more than 26 percent of the global market during the 1st quarter of 2008.
“As mobile operators continue to migrate their core networks to IP, GENBAND’s strategic partnerships with vendors such as Alcatel-Lucent have given GENBAND a strong footing to address the fast growing FMC market,” says Jeremy Duke, President & CEO, Synergy Research Group. “Executing a successful partnership program in this dynamic and transitioning market has propelled GENBAND to their leadership status.”
GENBAND will showcase its media gateway portfolio at the NXTcomm exhibition in Las Vegas, June 17-19, 2008. Featured in GENBAND’s booth (#SL510) will be the high-density G9 Converged Media Gateway™, as well as the mid-sized G6 Universal Media Gateway™ and hardened G2 Compact Media Gateway™. GENBAND’s carrier grade gateways allow fixed and mobile operators to rapidly deploy new multimedia services and infrastructure, while enabling service providers with legacy networks to transition to next generation networks. GENBAND’s products are open standards-based, creating the industry’s first truly open-architecture platforms that accelerate the deployment of IMS architectures and high value multimedia services.
