GENBAND CTO Honored with Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer Alumni Award from Purdue University
Frisco, Texas, October 29, 2013 – GENBAND, a leading developer of multimedia and cloud communications solutions, today announced that Fred Kemmerer, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the company, will receive the Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer (OECE) Award from Purdue University’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The award will be presented on Friday, November 1st at a banquet organized by Purdue University with former OECE award recipients, faculty and students in attendance.
“Fred is truly an ambassador of the great tradition of Purdue Engineering,” said Ragu Balakrishnan, Michael and Katherine Birck Head and Professor of Electrical and Computing Engineering at Purdue University. “Fred joins a distinguished group of past recipients who represent the finest in their fields and who embody the spirit of the school. Fred is applying the knowledge he acquired at Purdue and throughout his professional career to help make today’s telecommunications networks smarter and redefine the communications experience for the 21st century consumer. He is an inspiration to our students.”
Kemmerer is an experienced telecommunications executive with a broad background in a variety of communications technologies, which include wireless, Internet Protocol (IP) and multiservice switching and routing, next-generation core networks and broadband access. Having served as GENBAND’s CTO since 2008, he is responsible for setting the company’s strategic technical direction. Prior to joining GENBAND, Kemmerer held a broad range of positions at Lucent and then Alcatel-Lucent.
“My education in Electrical and Computing Engineering at Purdue University prepared me well for a challenging and rewarding career in the telecommunications and data networking space,” said Mr. Kemmerer. “I have had the opportunity to lead several corporations through multiple disruptive technology changes during my career. My time at Purdue laid the foundation for the creative critical thinking and agility required in today’s dynamic telecommunications industry.”
Purdue has presented the OECE award annually since 1992 to recognize select alumni who have demonstrated exemplary accomplishments, leadership and service to the community. Only 201 distinguished alumni have received this award among a field of more than 20,000.
