GENBAND Highlights Ongoing Standards-Based Femtocell Partner Ecosystem
February 15, 2010, Barcelona, Spain – GENBAND Inc., a leading developer of next-generation IP infrastructure solutions, today provided an update on its Femtocell Partner Ecosystem, which began in 2008. Designed to support system integrator implementation of open, standards-based and flexible femtocell solutions for service providers, this ecosystem ensures GENBAND’s market leading femtocell gateway components, the G9™ Converged Gateway and S2™ Security Gateway, are fully interoperable among best-of-breed femtocell controller and access point providers. Significant investments in lab testing and extensive field trials have certified GENBAND Femtocell Gateway interoperability with femtocell access points, femtocell controllers and service provider networks, resulting in several successful commercial deployments. This femtocell partner ecosystem supports all major standards, including pre-3GPP Iuh, 3GPP Iuh, SIP and 1X/EVDO, as well as converged environments for both consumer and enterprise applications.
“We are very pleased to work closely with the industry’s leading providers to participate in a comprehensive femtocell ecosystem and seamless, integrated femtocell gateway solutions,” said Keith Landau, chief product officer of GENBAND. “Our ecosystem interoperability efforts demonstrate a commitment to an open, flexible and standards-based approach for the developing femtocell market opportunity.”
Both independently and through leading system integrators, such as NEC, GENBAND has achieved certification through interoperability testing (IOT) for specific femtocell applications and standards with all of the top femtocell controller/server providers supporting both pre-Iuh / Iuh with Kineto Wireless and SIP with Tatara Systems; as well as leading access point providers including Airvana and AirWalk Communications.
“GENBAND is a trusted partner and we share their standards-based, interoperable approach to building a valuable femtocell ecosystem,” said Sanjeev Verma, vice president of femtocell business, Airvana. “Through this cooperation we will help UMTS and CDMA operators deploy femtocell solutions faster and with greater confidence.”
“A tightly integrated femtocell ecosystem enables us to join together and provide system integrators and operators with a proven, cost-effective solution,” said Serge Pequeux, president and CEO of AirWalk Communications.
“Successful ecosystems work to address service provider concerns around the cost and complexity of implementing new technology into their networks,” said Gary Sarson, vice president of business development for Kineto Wireless. “Working with GENBAND has supported our ability to quickly integrate our femtocell gateway controller into multiple networks, reducing both the overall cost and complexity for our customers.”
“Tatara Systems has always been committed to open standards and interoperability so we can appreciate GENBAND’s flexible, open approach which we believe ultimately drives innovation and fosters the development of the femtocell industry,” said Marc Cremer, executive vice president of operations for Tatara Systems.
GENBAND’s market leading G9 Converged Gateway provides the essential media and signaling adaptation required to bridge femtocell traffic into the mobile core, while the S2 Security Gateway delivers the vital security tunnels necessary to protect the network. Through its complete product portfolio, GENBAND plays a key role in several live Femtocell deployments around the world.
