GENBAND Interconnect Solution Provides Seamless Any-to-Any Network Connections
February 15, 2010, Barcelona, Spain – GENBAND Inc., a leading developer of next-generation IP infrastructure solutions, today unveiled its Interconnect Solution that enables the seamless any-to-any interconnection of fixed and mobile traffic between any IP or TDM network. This end-to-end, standards-based solution utilizes GENBAND’s rich portfolio of IP media and session border control platforms to reduce costs, expand markets, and interwork with the growing volume of peering and managed interconnect services such as the GSM Association’s IP eXchange (IPX).
Every network operator interconnects its voice traffic with other networks, and this interconnect traffic can come from many sources including other fixed and mobile operators, intra-company divisions, wholesale partners, and peering exchanges. Operators typically use Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) for interconnections, though these TDM networks no longer meet all of today’s needs. The volume and complexity of interconnect traffic has grown substantially due to increasing migration to Voice over IP in both fixed line and mobile voice core networks, challenging operators to simultaneously manage both TDM minutes and SIP/VoIP minutes across national and international backbones.
These factors are driving a radical shift in operators’ interconnect models. Operators are seeking to reduce transaction costs by capping or replacing their legacy TDM networks. They are also being challenged to improve scale, enhance QoS, reduce the number of components and operational complexity, and efficiently handle both fixed and mobile interconnect traffic.
The GENBAND Interconnect Solution provides comprehensive support for TDM to TDM, IP to IP, and IP to TDM signaling and media interworking to ensure complete, effective coverage for all traffic and signaling types. Advanced policy enforcement, reporting, and routing, under a single management umbrella, simplifies management and enhances service visibility. Support for interfaces such as C7/SS7, BICC, SIP-I, H.323, and Nb/Nc ensures broad global coverage, irrespective of the mobile or fixed origin or destination of traffic. In addition, GENBAND’s flexible architecture allows for massive scalability by providing both integrated and decoupled signaling and media interworking options, as well as rich multimedia transcoding and extensive codec support.
“With our Interconnect Solution, operators are able to cap or replace their legacy TDM networks yet interconnect and route traffic on an any-to-any basis, which simplifies and future-proofs their networks, ”said Mehmet Balos, Chief Marketing Officer of GENBAND. “Our Solution also encourages revenue growth by allowing operators to expand their network capabilities and services, as well as extend their brand across new market segments and geographies.”
Opportunities for growth include the ability for both existing and greenfield operators to cost-effectively connect to peering networks like GSMA’s IPX, a managed interconnect service that enables a sustainable IP Interworking solution based on openness, quality, cascading payments, and efficient connectivity. Far more than enabling only IP to IP interconnections, however, the GENBAND Interconnect Solution also enables the secure interworking of traffic between GSM and non-GSM operator networks, TDM-based fixed and mobile networks, and SIP-based VoIP and multimedia networks – all from a single vendor.
GENBAND is showcasing its IP solutions at Mobile World Congress 2010, a premier industry event held in Barcelona, Spain, February 15-18, 2010, in Booth 2B90 (Hall 2).
