Multi-functional media gateway enables seamless migration of network interconnects to all IP
 

March 23, 2010, Las Vegas – GENBAND Inc., a leading developer of next-generation media, session and security gateway solutions, today announced the addition of border gateway functionality to its flagship G9™ Converged Gateway. Adding this feature to the world’s leading media gateway creates a powerful user plane IP gateway that significantly reduces CapEx and OpEx for service providers deploying IMS networks by consolidating functionality into a single platform.

A pivotal function in IMS, border gateways reside in the access, core and interconnect segments of IP networks, enabling security, session management and policy enforcement for voice and multimedia sessions. While IMS defines that control functions such as signaling security are provided by border controllers such as GENBAND’s S-Series™ platforms, media processing functions are decoupled from control. GENBAND’s G9 enables these decoupled architectures, providing massive scale economies, efficient network design and lower IP transport costs.

The G9 gateway is the world’s most versatile media processing platform, integrating all border gateway variants including access, core and interconnect with the highest capacity and scalability. Enabling true network convergence, the G9 also supports the widest range of mobile, fixed and satellite codecs and powerful features for transcoding and media processing.
