GENBAND to Showcase Powerful Next Generation Session Border Controller at Mobile World Congress 2016
Barcelona, February 17, 2016 – GENBAND™, a leading provider of real-time communications software solutions, today announced that it will showcase its next generation software-centric Session Border Controller (SBC) solution at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, February 22 -25. The powerful solution enables service providers to take a differentiated approach to SBC deployment and achieve new levels of flexibility, scalability, cost savings and operational efficiencies. By offering service providers seamless, flexible migration to Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) environments via the cloud, through premises-based network deployments, or a combination of both, GENBAND sets itself apart from competitors’ solutions.
“As traffic on real-time IP communications networks continues to ramp up and the complexities of scaling, interworking and transcoding next generation services dramatically increases, the network’s media architecture needs to evolve,” said David Snow, Principal Analyst, IP Services Infrastructure, Current Analysis. “Service providers planning on transforming their networks to NFV are increasingly looking for solutions that can be deployed today while flexible enough to also meet the requirements of the virtualized networks of tomorrow.”
“Service providers require practical solutions that can meet both current and future traffic demands yet maintain network performance, Quality of Service (QoS) and cost efficiencies, and that’s exactly what we are providing – along with a world of new flexibility and deployment options,” said John McCready, President of Products and Corporate Development at GENBAND. “With GENBAND’s cloud-based SBC solution and unique approach, service providers can gracefully migrate their networks to NFV at their own pace, yet quickly launch new services with unmatched media scalability and flexibility while significantly reducing data center footprints as well as the associated energy consumption and cooling costs.”
McCready added, “Forward-thinking tier one service providers have already selected our next-generation SBC to take advantage of its distributed architecture.”
The advanced solution is powered by GENBAND’s Q50 Media System, a high density, high capacity, fully redundant Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) media server utilizing the latest Intel architecture and innovative DPDK software-based media processing capabilities to enable an industry-leading 200,000 concurrent media sessions and more than 105,000 transcoded sessions. This capacity can be shared across multiple appliance-based or cloud-based signaling SBC instances – a unique capability enabling operators to achieve significant cost savings and an easier migration path to NFV cloud environments.
At the core of GENBAND’s solution is the industry’s most advanced signaling and media software for media processing and transcoding. These powerful signaling/media software modules can be deployed together on a common integrated platform, the GENBAND Q21, or separately on two physically distributed platforms, the Q21 and the Q50. The GENBAND Q21 platform is a stand-alone, carrier-grade compact COTS appliance, leveraging Intel DPDK for software-based media processing. It enables high performance, high density session management as an integrated SBC (up to 70,000 sessions) or as a signaling function in a distributed configuration with the GENBAND Q50.
The next-generation SBC solution also comes with fully virtualized software-based centralized element management and analytics, offering cutting-edge data collection and reporting. The combined solution allows service providers to optimize their network investments, whether as an appliance or in a hybrid cloud or fully virtualized NFV environment.
Key Takeaways:
- GENBAND’s next generation SBC software solution, which is powered by its Q50 Media System, will be on display at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, February 22 -25. The solution has been selected by tier one service providers.
- The independently scalable SBC signaling and media software architecture offers service providers a differentiated approach to NFV cloud evolution with multiple deployment options, running as an integrated SBC on the Q21 platform or a distributed SBC on the Q21and Q50 platforms, in a virtualized or hybrid cloud environment, or in an NFV-enabled data center.
- GENBAND’s Q50 Media System delivers industry leading scalability supporting 200,000 media sessions and more than 105,000 transcoding sessions with unique shared media capacity across multiple signaling applications.
- The Q21 and Q50 platforms offer significant energy savings by leveraging the latest high performance, high density COTS server technology in a compact footprint.
The solution will be demonstrated at GENBAND’s booth 2I31 in Exhibition Hall 2.
