GENBAND Showcases New Multimedia Capabilities for Increased Productivity and Efficiency
October 29, 2007, Plano, TX - GENBAND Inc., a market-leading developer of next-generation IP gateways and application solutions, will showcase several enhancements to the GENBAND™ M6 Communication Applications Server at the Fall VON conference in Boston. The enhanced product will be commercially available in the first quarter of 2008. GENBAND is demonstrating the following new features in booth #1037 on the VON show floor: MultiMedia Assistant, secondary softphone, reservation-less conferencing, and video enhancements.
The M6™ platform is designed to enable carriers to cost-effectively transition to IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) networks while delivering next-generation services today. Led by requests from operators and their subscribers, GENBAND has expanded the wide range of features and capabilities in its flagship M6 Communication Applications Server. With the release of the M6 platform release 7.0, GENBAND has added the features highlighted below:
- MultiMedia Assistant (MMA): A new application that takes much of the current web portal browser-based capabilities and puts it in a very intuitive, smaller PC-based application. It also includes new features such as instant messaging and presence for phone status and instant messaging status, desktop/application sharing, video calling, conferencing floor control, call control, voice mail, directories and call logs.
- Secondary Softphone: Enterprise and consumer users are able to have a single number across their office, home, WiFi etc. (hard phone) as well as their softphone. When the provisioned number rings it will ring both numbers and the user can answer at either location, transparent to the incoming caller. This feature does not require find me simultaneous ring, remote phone or shared line appearances to work, therefore alleviating the requirement for advanced features and additional user licenses in order to provide a secondary softphone to the same user making it more competitive for service providers to deploy.
- Reservation-Less Conferencing: As an enhancement to the current meet-me conferencing, administrators can now configure reservation-less conference bridges where the same moderator and guest ID are used for an “always up” conference call. Reservation-less conferencing alleviates the need for costly 3rd party conferencing services and provides the flexibility for impromptu meetings without having to reserve a conference bridge for a call. Moderators and guests can use the conferencing floor control through web portal meet-me or multimedia assistant conferencing to manage and moderate the conference as required. Codes are also applicable to mute participants, play roll call, raise/lower hands to vote or request the floor, and lock/unlock the conference. With this release, an additional code and moderator floor control function has been added to disable/enable join/leave tones to minimize disruptions during an active conference. This functionality is enabled for both meet-me and reservation-less conferencing.
- Video Calling and Transferring: The setup and transfer of video calls can now be accomplished via the GENBAND M6 softphone and video supported IP endpoints.
- Increased Flexibility in Interop: The M6 platform has extended its flexibility in connecting to endpoints through the creation of SIP profiles. These profiles allow vendors who handle transactions differently within the generic SIP standards to communicate with each other. SIP profiles can now be created and used in the R7.0 system for connections to SIP Gateways, SIP Peering, SIP Trunking, SIP Conferencing, SIP Voice Mail and other non-endpoint SIP connections. The M6 platform now uses the same flexible mechanisms that it has used for endpoints to communicate with northbound SIP interfaces.
“GENBAND continues to develop and enhance our innovative application portfolio to meet customer and market demands.” said Charles Vogt, president and chief executive officer at GENBAND. “The M6, one of our flagship application products, continues its innovation with these latest enhancements.”
