GENBAND’s Latest S3™ Intelligent Session Border Control Release Delivers Advanced RCS-e Support
Frisco, TX, November 9, 2011-- GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, today announced major enhancements to its S3™ Intelligent Session Border Control (SBC) product supporting enhanced Rich Communications Suite (RCS-e) standards. The S3 SBC Release 8.0 enables service providers to securely and reliably interconnect and route RCS-e advanced communication services over IP networks.
RCS-e is a joint strategic initiative led by the GSM Association and supported by five leading European operators: France Télécom, Telefónica, Telecom Italia, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone. It is focused on delivering a simplified extension to voice and text and enabling mobile operators to effectively compete with providers of Over the Top (OTT) services by allowing their subscribers to send instant messages, video chat and exchange files in real-time. RCS-e is an enhanced version of the Rich Communications Suite (RCS) standards, which are interoperable specifications based on the use of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) technology, architectural frameworks for delivering IP multimedia services.
“With RCS-e support on the S3 Intelligent SBC, GENBAND provides mobile carriers and IP eXchange (IPX) providers a secure, reliable, and cost-effective solution for deploying advanced multimedia services over IP,” says BG Kumar, President of Networking and Applications, GENBAND. “We are experiencing increased demand from tier one carriers for secure IP Interconnect for RCS-e services. Our latest enhancement to the S3 Intelligent SBC allows operators around the world to gain a significant competitive advantage, with the ability to create new revenue opportunities and meet the rapidly growing demand for advanced communications and cloud services.”
The S3 SBC’s IPv4/IPv6 interworking capabilities have also been enhanced for RCS-e services, enabling carriers to securely deploy and interconnect RCS-e services over their existing IPv4 networks while gradually migrating to IPv6.
Release 8.0 also includes enhancements for supporting advanced real-time session reporting, analytics, and dynamic routing for RCS-e services in both IPv4 and IPv6 environments. The S3 Intelligent SBC reduces the time to deploy RCS-e services by providing service providers the ability to manage and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), as well as remotely troubleshoot any issues during the deployment – critical components in successfully launching RCS-e services. In addition, the S3’s advanced dynamic routing capabilities enable carriers to cost-effectively and reliably route RCS-e services around the globe. Other key features of the S3 Intelligent SBC Release 8.0 include improved signaling and multi-media interworking, more robust performance, and extended security for IPX, SIP Trunking, and Unified Communication services.
"Interest in RCS-e has been growing among carriers worldwide, which will require applications to be delivered securely, reliably and with exceptional quality,” said Diane Myers, Infonetics Research. “Based on Infonetics’ recent SBC Deployment Strategies survey with operators worldwide, GENBAND is viewed as a leader in the SBC market. Its long-standing position with the S3, in addition to new investments in the product portfolio, demonstrates GENBAND’s commitment to enabling advanced and rich communications.”
