General Bandwidth G6® Platform is Being Tested by SureWest Communications for an All-IP Network
Austin, TX – General Bandwidth announced today that integrated communications provider SureWest Communications (Nasdaq: SURW) is lab testing the General Bandwidth G6 Packet Telephony Migration Platform to deliver enhanced voice over IP services to residential and business broadband customers in the Sacramento/Roseville corridor. SureWest is among the largest U.S.-based providers of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections and serves approximately 7,000 FTTH customers.
“Testing the General Bandwidth G6 platform reflects SureWest Communication's commitment to offer advanced voice service utilizing scalable, open-standards based systems,” said Bill DeMuth, vice president and CTO, SureWest Communications. “The G6 platform provides a logical migration path from circuit to packet ensuring the longevity of network architecture.”
The G6 Packet Telephony Migration Platform, with its support for voice over IP and voice over ATM networks, delivers high quality, full-featured voice services over a variety of T1/DSL, hybrid fiber coax (HFC), and fiber-based access architectures. With the capability to simultaneously support voice services from existing class 5 switches as well as next generation packet switches, the G6 platform provides a service migration platform from which new voice and media features can be deployed.
“SureWest Communications has demonstrated its commitment to the Sacramento marketplace seeking to deliver the highest quality voice services to their integrated broadband customers in the Sacramento region,” said Brendon Mills, President and CEO of General Bandwidth. “We are very pleased to be working with SureWest to ensure a seamless migration toward packet voice services across its expanding broadband network.”
