General Bandwidth Selected For Cable Telephony Deployment by Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative

Austin, TX – General Bandwidth, a leading Voice over IP equipment manufacturer enabling rapid deployment and new service revenue generation over broadband networks, has been selected by Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative (GVTC), Texas’ largest telecommunication cooperative, to deliver cable telephony services over Guadalupe Valley’s hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network.

“At GVTC, we pride ourselves on providing our customers the latest in telecommunications services and technology with the highest reliability available on the market,” said Josh Pettiette, Manager, Network Operations Center of GVTC.  “We have put General Bandwidth’s G6 platform through months of rigorous testing and it has proven to be a very flexible, carrier grade voice service platform that can be deployed to deliver PacketCable™ telephony services from both our legacy as well as future next generation voice network.”

With more than 45,000 access lines in 11 counties in Central Texas, GVTC has established itself as a major integrated communications provider in one of the fastest growing regions of Central Texas.  Currently GVTC serves more than 7,000 customers over its HFC network.  In July 2005, they deployed the General Bandwidth G6 Universal Media Gateway as they launched Digital Choice Unlimited phone service to customers in Boerne, Texas.

“Today’s announcement underscores the continued success General Bandwidth is gaining in accelerating the deployment of cable telephony services to deliver digital phone services,” said Charles Vogt, president and chief executive officer of General Bandwidth. “With VoIP services representing new revenue growth opportunities for today’s leading competitive carriers, General Bandwidth continues to be the leading voice gateway for carriers seeking to generate revenue quickly.”

The G6 Universal Media Gateway Platform is a true carrier class, PacketCable-compliant solution providing full redundancy along with the capability of simultaneously supporting PacketCable Line Control (LCS) and Network-based Call Signaling (NCS) from a single G6 platform. With the ability to scale from 240 to 16,128 simultaneous DS0s on a single chassis, the G6 platform provides the most cost-effective solution for cable operators seeking to grow their network on a city-by-city basis.
