General Bandwidth Unveils Latest G6® Software at SUPERCOMM 2004

 

 

 

 

 

Austin, Texas, June 21, 2004 – General Bandwidth®, a leading Voice over IP equipment manufacturer enabling rapid deployment and new revenue generation over broadband networks, will be demonstrating Release 7.0 for the G6 VoIP Media Gateway in booths #23316 and #27329 this week at SUPERCOMM 2004 in McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois.

 

G6 Release 7.0 expands upon the current functionality of the G6 platform with support for a number of new features including Non-Service Affecting (NSA) upgrades, PRI and E&M signaling over VoIP, VoATM AAL1 for Fiber to the Business applications, and site-level redundancy for the GenView element management system (EMS). 

 

General Bandwidth’s G6 VoIP Media Gateway is the industry’s highest capacity access media gateway capable of delivering carrier grade scalability and reliability with unmatched VoIP quality of service.  With Release 7.0 support for non-service affecting upgrades and EMS site level redundancy, General Bandwidth delivers a true carrier grade solution that ensures greater than 99.999% network availability as service providers will no longer need to bring down voice network to upgrade to future releases of G6 and GenView software.

 

In conjunction with Release 7.0, General Bandwidth has released a new 10 port T1 Telephony Port Module (TPM2) which adds VoATM AAL1 support and enhances the processing power of the G6 platform to support CableLabs’ PacketCable security requirements when operating the G6 platform at its full capacity of more than 26,000 subscribers/chassis.  Additional DSP processing has also been added in support of future low bit rate and multimedia codecs on the G6 platform.

 

Deployed by more the 38 customers for applications ranging from Fiber to the Premises (FTTP), cable telephony (PacketCableTM), and integrated voice and data with IP Centrex (VoIP Business Services), the G6 platform gives service providers the flexibility to simultaneously support a variety of voice service models ranging from IP Centrex with SIP-based feature servers (SIP/PRI gateway), softswitches (TGCP/IMT media gateway), and VoIP and VoATM with legacy Class 5 switches (GR-303, TR08, V5.2, and T1 CAS).
