General Bandwidth Unveils New VoIP Software for Cable Telephony Deployments

Austin, Texas – General Bandwidth, a leading Voice over IP equipment manufacturer enabling rapid deployment and new service revenue generation over broadband networks, has recently completed development of its latest software release for the G6 ® VoIP Media Gateway that provides media gateway functionality designed to comply with CableLabs' PacketCable TM specifications.

This latest software release of the G6 ® VoIP Media Gateway has been tested with leading call management servers (CMS) and softswitches to ensure widespread interoperability and a rich feature set of traditional and next generation telephony services. In addition to supporting CMS interoperability, the G6 platform supports signaling (IPSec) and bearer traffic (AES) security, MO and MF trunks for Enhanced 911 and Operator Services, and new low bit rate codecs (G.729).

“The race is clearly on to offer VoIP services that provide the reliability and quality of service of the traditional PSTN network. Existing deployments often rely on enterprise class gateways that neither support these objectives nor support the full suite of security and E911 features,” said Brendon Mills, CEO and President of General Bandwidth. “With our latest release, the General Bandwidth G6 platform delivers a fully redundant media gateway solution designed to meet PacketCable NCS and LCS specifications that also delivers the reliability, scalability, and essential features required to compete in today's marketplace.”

With a capacity to scale from 2000 to 28,000 subscribers per chassis, the G6 VoIP Media Gateway also supports all voice service architectures, whether centralized or distributed. As a stand-alone media gateway, the G6 platform can be cost-effectively placed at the edge of the network for efficient interconnection to the local PSTN. This design also allows geographic centralization of expensive CMS and peripheral resources, simplifying service management for cost-effective deployments of voice over cable.
