- Iristel also operates ICE Wireless, a Canadian mobile phone company that has deployed an IMS-based network with Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) support
- Iristel is the first carrier in Canada – either competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) like itself or incumbent carrier – to deploy Sonus’ PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server to support a converged VoIP and IMS-based Mobile Network
- The Sonus PSX will help Iristel centralize management and provisioning of all routes and policies associated with Iristel’s converged network
WESTFORD, Mass. and TORONTO – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a global leader in SIP communications, today announced that Iristel, Canada’s largest and fastest-growing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service provider, is deploying the Sonus PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server to centralize management and provisioning of all routes and network policies within the core of its network.
The Sonus PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server is a central element in Sonus' industry-leading session border controller (SBCs) and VoIP media gateways that are deployed in enterprise and service provider networks around the globe.
Since 1999, Iristel has offered innovative VoIP-based services to its residential, business and wholesale customers. With its recent acquisition of ICE Wireless, Iristel launched Canada’s first competitive communication services in the Northwest Territories, including VoIP-based fixed lines services and will soon be offering 3G mobile phone services. In order to effectively and efficiently converge its VoIP and mobile networks, Iristel is deploying the Sonus PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server solution. Located in Toronto and Vancouver, the Sonus PSX technology will provide the centralized intelligence for call routing for various network elements in Iristel’s converged VoIP and mobile network.
The PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server also provides Iristel with more robust access to advanced services such as toll-free, number translations and local number portability (LNP). This allows Iristel to let customers keep existing phone numbers and move to Iristel’s advanced communications network for significantly less cost than current local and mobile phone service.
The Sonus PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server offers industry-leading features, exceptional scalability and centralized policy/traffic control for both SIP and legacy network elements, including SBCs, media gateways and soft-switches. These features allow the Sonus PSX Centralized Policy and Routing Server to deliver a host of real-world benefits to service providers and businesses, including lower cost VoIP calls, intelligent routing, simplified network management and increased margins.
