MetTel Selects GENBAND's G6® Universal Media Gateways for VoIP

Plano, TX – GENBAND Inc., a leading provider of telecommunications infrastructure products enabling converged services, announced today the selection of the G6 Universal Media Gateway by Metropolitan Telecommunications (MetTel), a nationwide integrated communications provider, for VoIP network growth amongst business-class customers.

The integration of GENBAND’s G6 gateway by MetTel considerably increases their T1 access ports in the network, at individual port prices well below those of other gateways currently in the marketplace. The G6 also provides the means for MetTel to segregate their internal business-class network to ensure enhanced quality services and quicker maintenance response times.

“We are excited to have a reliable and easily configurable gateway that can fulfill the TDM to VoIP interconnection needs of our network and our clients' phone systems”, said Edward Fox, Vice President of Network Services for MetTel. “GENBAND’s G6 Universal Media Gateway allows us to grow quickly and economically into the VoIP market without having to manage additional platforms.”

GENBAND’s award-winning G6 Universal Media Gateway is an open standards, circuit-to-packet platform that is deployed in a service provider’s switching office, head-end or Point of Presence. It enables voice communications between packet-based networks and circuit-based networks. Proven interoperable with and simultaneously supporting the leading Class 5 switches, softswitches, SIP application servers, digital loop carriers (DLCs), and customer premises equipment (CPE), the G6 platform uniquely enables service providers to accelerate VoIP services and network migration by leveraging their existing and next generation network assets. The G6 platform is a true carrier class solution that provides full redundancy and a fully integrated emergency stand-alone capability.

“The G6 platform in the MetTel network will help them expand their business service offerings and incrementally add VoIP customers nationwide,” said Charles Vogt, president and chief executive officer of GENBAND. “MetTel’s partnership with GENBAND further validates the unique ability of the G6 to economically support the migration to VoIP services. Our customers are focused on metrics such as ARPU, and the G6 gives them a platform to deliver rich features at low capital and operational cost points.”
