Mobius Communications Company Selects General Bandwidth and Airspan Solutions for Fixed Point to Multipoint Wireless Broadband Services

Austin, Texas -- General Bandwidth, a leading telecommunications equipment provider enabling carriers to deliver enhanced voice services over broadband networks, and Airspan Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: AIRN), a leading worldwide provider of broadband fixed wireless access networks , have been selected by Mobius Communications Company , a Nebraska-based integrated communications company, to deliver fixed point to multipoint wireless voice and data services to Mobius' Western Nebraska customer base.

This solution represents an industry first with respect to delivering packet voice services, with voice quality and CLASS features similar to the incumbent service provider's Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), over a fixed point to multipoint broadband wireless network capable of reaching customers within a twenty-mile radius.

With this solution, Mobius' customer base can receive high-speed Internet access along with high quality voice services similar in quality to wireline access via a wireless gateway. Airspan's Wireless IP Local Loop System (WipLL) is an enhanced wireless IP data and voice platform that delivers 4Mbit/s throughput per base station radio and total base station capacity of up to 96Mbit/s. Individual subscribers will be able to terminate up to 3Mbit/s IP data and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) services, making it tailor-made for residential, SOHO and SME applications. In conjunction with General Bandwidth's G6 Ò Packet Telephony Migration Gateway, Mobius is able to combine voice and data requirements onto a single access platform, thereby reducing operational costs and fault rates.

“For years, we have been looking for a broadband wireless solution that can deliver competitive integrated voice and data services which compete both economically and technically with traditional wireline services. We found this solution with Airspan and General Bandwidth,” says Theron Jensen, General Manager of Mobius Communications Company.  “Airspan's WipLL and General Bandwidth's G6 gateway are great stepping stones which allow us to deliver voice services from both existing Class 5 as well as next generation softswitches and transition to a more flexible customer oriented network.”

“We have been working with Mobius to identify a broadband wireless and VoIP gateway solution that would provide toll-quality voice, complete end-to-end QOS control with transparent CLASS features as well as provide broadband data.” says Donn Swedenburg, Technology Consultant for RVW Inc. “These products integrated and performed well while demonstrating cost-effective scalability. With the Airspan and General Bandwidth products, Mobius has the flexibility and scalability to quickly and cost-effectively launch converged voice and data services wirelessly in rural areas and could also expand capacity rapidly to provide services to towns and small cities if desired. This makes the solution an excellent option for IOC/ILEC/CLECs seeking to rapidly deploy or expand services offerings in both rural and urban environments.”

General Bandwidth's G6 Packet Telephony Migration Platform, with its support for Voice over IP and Voice over ATM networks, delivers high quality, full-featured voice services over a wide variety of packet architectures, including T1, DSL, hybrid fiber coax (HFC), fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP), and fixed wireless. With the capability to simultaneously support voice services from existing Class 5 switches as well as next generation packet switches, the G6 platform is a highly scalable, fully redundant, and very flexible service migration platform from which new voice and media features can be deployed.
