Interoperability Testing Between Two Companies Facilitates Rapid Roll Out of Consumer VoIP Services
SAN JOSE, CA, and CHELMSFORD, MA, March 15, 2006 – At Spring VON 2006 (Booth #517), Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, announced today, it has teamed with NETGEAR®, Inc., a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products to streamline the adoption and usage of leading consumer VoIP solutions. The two companies have conducted interoperability testing between Sonus' Voice over Broadband (VoBB) platform and NETGEAR's line of broadband phone adapters, which will enable customers to access next generation consumer lifestyle services.
“The future of the telephony industry is no longer about simple voice services. In order to be successful, service providers are building solutions that combine voice and data to deliver a previously unmatched array of consumer services,” said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO, Sonus Networks. “Today's leading voice over broadband services are powered by Sonus' platform. By teaming with NETGEAR, a strong international brand in both wired and wireless consumer electronics, we're helping to make these new services more accessible to consumers.”
Sonus' IMS-ready architecture supports the industry's most extensive portfolio of next generation applications, and offers an open, flexible framework for the rapid deployment of future applications, including high margin services such as presence-driven applications, fixed-to-mobile services, and other solutions that leverage the power of IP-based architectures. The NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter with Router streamlines access to these services. Customers simply plug an ordinary telephone and their cable or digital subscriber line (DSL) modem into the NETGEAR Broadband Voice Adapter; installation and set-up is through NETGEAR's intuitive user interface, Smart Wizard™.
“VoIP has moved passed the early adopter phase heralded by a small, tech-savvy segment of the population, and is now being embraced by average consumers looking to take advantage of the cost savings and access to exciting new services,” Teresa Mastrangelo, Principal Analyst with Broadbandtrends.com. “Sonus has proven itself to be a leader in the field, and teaming with a well-known consumer brand like NETGEAR offers the company additional credibility and visibility with end users.”
