BARCELONA, Spain – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a global leader in securing Cloud and real-time communications, announced today that it is demonstrating how interoperable, virtualized solutions can increase the speed of deployment of real-time communications in the Cloud. This demonstration, taking place at Mobile World Congress, is based on successful interoperability testing at the ETSI Plugtest and provides global service providers with a best-of-breed solution that supports carrier-grade real-time communications in the Cloud.

Located at the HPE Partner Showcase booth 3E11, the demonstration is comprised of the HPE NFV Director for management and orchestration (MANO), Sonus SBC SWe and EMS SWe as virtual network functions (VNFs), and NFV infrastructure (NFVI) from Wind River.

During the demonstration, the HPE NFV Director seamlessly orchestrates the instantiation, scaling and termination of virtual instances of the Sonus SBC SWe. The joint solution showcases elasticity, with automatic scaling and load-balancing. This delivers a proven, carrier-grade architecture that is reliable and flexible, dependent on network traffic needs.

Quotes:

“While NFV shows lots of promise, it also introduces new operational challenges. Without adequately addressing these challenges, the promises of NFV will be tough to realize,” said David Sliter, vice president and general manager, Communications Solutions Business, HPE. “HPE and Sonus are committed to an interoperable approach to meet the evolving ETSI specifications for NFV orchestrator functionality.”

“This demonstration illustrates the continued advancement the industry is making towards delivering NFV orchestration and optimized VNFs that meet the expectations of our service provider customers,” said Kevin Riley, senior vice president of engineering and CTO, Sonus. “Sonus and HPE are providing service providers with a proven carrier-grade solution for elastic Cloud-optimized SBCs for real-time communications.”

Other Facts:

  • Sonus will be located at booth Hall 1 Stand 1G28 during Mobile World Congress.
  • Sonus supports standard OpenStack and ETSI-based interfaces and partnerships with many market-leading service orchestration and VNF infrastructure vendors to facilitate VNF instantiation.
