- Sonus SBC 5100 targets the 250 to 10,000 session market; ideal for medium to large enterprises and tier two/three service providers

Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS), a global leader in SIP communications, today announced the introduction of the Sonus SBC 5100, a session border controller (SBC) that targets the 250 to 10,000 session market. The Sonus SBC 5100 is purpose-built to leverage SIP-based networks as enterprises and tier two/three service providers look to simplify their infrastructure and deploy video and Unified Communications features.
As the third product in Sonus' portfolio of SBC solutions, the Sonus SBC 5100 possesses the same characteristics that have made Sonus the fastest-growing SBC brand among service providers ("Infonetics Research Service Provider VoIP Equipment and Subscribers," 4Q11 report); growing almost 4x faster than the market average.
SBCs provide secure access to SIP trunking, which enables enterprises to reduce costs and deliver new applications such as Unified Communications and video. SIP trunking, trunking consolidation and the move to VoIP can reduce traditional enterprise telecom bills by up to 75%. A recent Infonetics Research report shows the enterprise SBC market up 60% from 2010 to 2011 and is expected to grow 26% year-over-year through 2016.
Unique features of the Sonus SBC 5100 include:
- Voice codecs, routing and call control in a simple-to-use, easily managed solution
- Flexibility for use in a variety of deployment scenarios — access, peering, or solely as an enterprise SBC
- Premium SBC features with full hardware redundancy, advanced SIP message manipulation, and advanced Denial of Service protection are all built in
The Sonus SBC 5100 is available for immediate order.
The Sonus SBC 5100 comes with a new version of software which is consistent across the complete Sonus SBC 5000 family of products, including the industry-leading Sonus SBC 5200. The Sonus SBC 5200 is specifically designed for high-capacity environments demanded by tier one service providers and Fortune 500 companies. The Sonus SBC 5200 supports 64,000 sessions on a single server, more than twice the capacity of a similar product from the leading SBC competitor.
The new release 3.0 software will deliver the following features on both the Sonus SBC 5100 and the Sonus SBC 5200:
- DSP density improvements that take Sonus SBC capacity up to an industry-leading number of transcoding sessions (17,200 for Sonus SBC 5200) plus HD codec-based routing capabilities
- Support for Microsoft Lync, Lawful Intercept, and key Access Service Provider features
- New and improved application-level management user interface as well as new platform-level management user interface
The Sonus SBC 5200 with release 3.0 software can be ordered today.
