Sonus to Lead Microsoft Lync Training Workshop at ACUTA’s Winter Higher Education Seminar
Session Offers Strategies for Deployment of Microsoft Lync to Improve Collaboration in College and University Environments
Sonus Networks, Inc., a global leader in SIP communications, announced today that it will lead a workshop titled “Lessons for Bringing Microsoft Lync to Existing Networks” at the ACUTA 2014 Winter Seminar, to be held January 12-15, 2014 in Phoenix.
ACUTA, comprised of more than 700 educational institutions, is focused on advancing the capabilities of communications and collaboration technology leaders in the field of higher education to address the range of collaboration styles and needs of faculties, students and staffs within today’s distributed, and often virtual, campuses.
With the advent of the mobile Internet and the increased use of smartphone and tablet devices, universities are increasingly turning to unified communications (UC) platforms such as Microsoft Lync to improve collaboration. With Microsoft Lync, colleges and universities can leverage campus voice, video and data networks and build a bridge to bring-your-own-device (BYOD), Cloud and social media tools used by students and faculty.
Sonus was selected by ACUTA to lead the workshop based on the company’s experience in delivering interoperability for real-time, multimedia communications across complex, multi-vendor environments. Joining Sonus in the workshop will be representatives from Microsoft who are well versed in the higher education sector, as well as leading Lync integration partner, The Via Group. The Via Group was recognized in 2011 as the U.S. Lync Voice Education Partner of the Year and is a certified Microsoft Gold Communications systems integration partner.
Together, Microsoft, The Via Group and Sonus plan to conduct a dynamic, interactive session based on actual university use cases selected from session participants. These industry experts expect to take the class through what to consider and how to go about executing a Lync deployment.
Quote:
“Colleges and universities have a real opportunity to leverage improved collaboration on campus through tools such as Microsoft Lync, as the intersection between social, mobile and Cloud tools begin to emerge,” said Todd A. Abbott, executive vice president, Strategy and Go-to-Market, Sonus. “We are very pleased to have been selected by ACUTA to lead this consultative workshop. By collaborating with our key partners Microsoft and The Via Group, we plan to share best practices across a project life cycle, from planning through the deployment of Microsoft Lync in campus environments.”
