CHELMSFORD and BOSTON, Mass., September 19, 2005 - Today at the Fall VON 2005 Conference, Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, and Belkin Corporation, the global leader in connectivity solutions, announced that they will be demonstrating a new ring tone service in the Belkin booth (#11). The service, which leverages the seamless interoperability between the Sonus-branded line of Belkin's VoIP broadband phone adapters and Sonus' industry leading ASX™ Access Server, offers consumers the ability to assign distinctive ring tones for incoming calls. Sonus and Belkin announced their formal partnership in May 2005, which included a mutual commitment to extensive interoperability testing in order to streamline the process for consumers in setting up and using a consumer VoIP system.
“The next generation of services centers on the ability to customize the way we communicate,” said Steve Edwards, chief marketing officer, Sonus Networks. “Ring tones have been hugely popular in the mobile phone industry, and through our partnership, Sonus and Belkin are making it easy for consumers to take advantage of a broad array of new services that are enabled by voice over broadband solutions.”
“Attracting new customers through enticing services, while at the same time making voice over broadband solutions easy to use, is key to propelling the adoption of VoBB solutions further into the mainstream,” said Mark Reynoso, Belkin Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing. “One of the key benefits of VoBB solutions is that services that consumers are accustomed to for one device, such as ring tones for mobile phones, are now available for home or office lines. By selecting a solution backed by the Sonus and Belkin brands, consumers can rest assured that setting up and managing the service is simple and straightforward.”
Deployed in some of the world's largest VoBB service providers around the world, Sonus' ASX Access Server supports packet connectivity to a variety of Integrated Access Devices (IADs), gateways, next-generation Digital Loop Carriers (DLCs) and IP endpoints. As a pioneer in the application of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Sonus designed the ASX as an open system that leverages SIP as its core protocol for communicating between network elements. The ASX enables a broad range of traditional class 5 telecom services, including residential access, cable access and business services, as well as a variety of new features available only on packet based networks such as unified messaging, multi-media conferencing and desktop integration capabilities.
