Alliance Gives Carriers and ISPs a Time-to-Market Advantage for the Creation and Deployment of Revenue-Generating Services

WESTFORD, Mass. and FRAMINGHAM, Mass., June 27, 2000 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS) and Pactolus Communication Software, Inc. today announced that they are working together to help Communications Service Providers and ISPs quickly create and deploy new services through Sonus’ Open Services Architecture (OSA). The combination of Pactolus’ Rapid-FLEX service creation environment (SCE) and Sonus’ PSX6000 SoftSwitch offers carrier customers powerful service creation tools to develop and implement enhanced, revenue-generating services.

Pactolus’ Rapid-FLEX SCE provides an XML-based, "drag-and-drop" visual development environment for the Sonus PSX6000 SoftSwitch. Using the SCE and Pactolus’ eXtensible Telephony Markup Language (XTML), Sonus’ customers will be able to quickly create and deploy new services on the Sonus SoftSwitch, including specialized routing, custom call flows, voice announcements and calling services.

"The Pactolus Rapid-FLEX SCE provides a highly sophisticated, yet easy-to-use tool for rapidly generating enhanced services applications," commented Mike Hluchyj, founder and chief technology officer, Sonus Networks. "The SCE, combined with our powerful Open Services Architecture, will help service providers gain a time-to-market advantage in creating and delivering new softswitch-based services."

"We share Sonus’ vision for creating the new public network and look forward to working with them and their customers to achieve this goal," said Dave Horton, president and CEO of Pactolus. "The Rapid-FLEX XML-based service creation environment gives carriers the ability to introduce new services in a quick, cost-effective manner which is critical for success in today’s highly competitive service provider market."
