Sonus Networks Appoints Dr. Vikram Saksena as Chief Technology Officer

Leading technologist to be responsible for technology vision and advanced product direction; Company's Founder Mike Hluchyj to Retire from Sonus Networks

WESTFORD, Mass., January 16, 2007 - Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, announced that Dr. Vikram Saksena has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Sonus Networks. Dr. Saksena was previously Sonus' chief scientist. In this expanded role, he will be responsible for Sonus' overall technology direction, as well as leading Sonus' advanced development initiatives. Additionally, the Company announced that its founder Mike Hluchyj has retired from Sonus Networks.

During the last four years, Dr. Saksena has broadened his technology leadership position at Sonus Networks as he helped to shape and set the future of Sonus' technology. As Chief Scientist for the company, he was responsible for Sonus' advanced technology direction, guiding the future development of Sonus' wireless solutions, and increasing Sonus' technical focus on external audiences and government agencies. Dr. Saksena brings to this role first-hand knowledge of the service provider industry with over twenty years of experience in the telecom and cable market in senior technology positions. Prior to Sonus, he spent 16 years at AT&T building their data network services, software and network infrastructure for Frame Relay, ATM, and IP. He became an AT&T Fellow and Chief Technologist of the Data Networking Business Unit responsible for service and technology innovations around IP Quality of Service, Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS), and Voice over IP. After AT&T, he served as the CTO and VP of Engineering of two start-up companies, MaxComm Technologies and Narad Networks, focused on developing next generation technologies for the DSL and cable markets. Dr. Saksena has published over 100 papers and has been awarded over 15 patents. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
