Twenty-Eight-Year Sales and Marketing Veteran Brings Expertise in Go-to-Market and Channel Enablement
WESTFORD, Mass., May 3, 2011 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a market leader in next-generation IP-based network solutions, today announced the appointment of industry veteran Todd Abbott as its Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Todd joins Sonus from his most recent role at Avaya, where he was the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In that role, Todd was instrumental in implementing their go-to-market strategy and their transition from a principally direct approach to one that includes channel partnerships. Prior to that, Todd successfully built and led sales teams at Symbol, Cisco and IBM.
"I am pleased to welcome Todd to lead our sales efforts at Sonus," said Ray Dolan, President and CEO of Sonus. "The credibility and leadership experience Todd brings to the team should help us drive greater execution levels and increase our sales velocity. In addition, as we ramp up our channel development efforts, Todd's relationships and expertise in that area should help us to accelerate the pace of business we transact through partners."
Mr. Abbott will report directly to the CEO. His role will involve responsibility for the global sales force, including the responsibility for Sonus's channel partnerships. Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Abbott said, "I am truly excited to be here. Sonus has a well-regarded customer base and has trusted relationships with its customers. It is also a company that has shown great technology innovation in the past year. As it expands its presence into new market segments and gains increased traction through partners, I look forward to leveraging my experience and contributing to our success together as a team."
Todd Abbott received his Bachelor's degree in Finance and Marketing from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts in 1982 and started his sales career at IBM. From there, he moved on to various sales leadership positions at Cisco, Symbol, Seagate and Avaya. In addition to his international experience, including Asia and Europe, Todd has led broad transformations in multiple organizations from primarily direct sales approaches to ones that included channel partnerships.
