Sonus Networks Drives The Future Of Communications Services At GLOBALCOMM
Sonus' "Futures Room" Showcases What's Next in IP-Based Voice Applications
CHICAGO, Illinois and CHELMSFORD, Mass., June 5, 2006 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, announced today that at GLOBALCOMM 2006, the next-generation communications marketplace and summit, the Company will be showcasing how solutions from Sonus Networks are revolutionizing the communications paradigm through innovative IP-based voice applications. The Sonus “Futures Room” will feature a number of applications that can be delivered today over a Sonus IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-ready architecture and built with Sonus' IMS application development tools, including the Sonus IMX™ Multimedia Application Platform.
“In the legacy telecommunications world, innovation has traditionally been slow because of the high risk, cost and complexity of introducing new applications into the market. Sonus' IP-based solutions, which allow developers to build new applications using standards-based programming languages and deploy them in a simple, cost-effective manner, drives down the cost of innovation, empowers service providers to experiment with new offerings, and opens the door to a whole new world of possibility,” said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO, Sonus Networks.
Applications being demonstrated in the Sonus “Futures Room”, booth #33077, include:
- Parental Controls - An IMX-based application that allows parents to use a Web portal to define and enforce the policy of how their children's cell phones are used, including restricting calls to and from specific numbers, setting the time-of-day the phone can be used, minutes used, etc.
- “WebWalls”: An interactive application that allows users with mobile phones to communicate in real-time with Web-connected screens or advertisements.
- Call Blast: A call feature that allows non-commercial organizations to contact communities of interest. This type of application can be used in a variety of ways, from emergency situations in a “reverse 911” capacity to alert impacted areas of upcoming weather alerts to school administrators informing parents of “snow days”.
- Ring Back Tone: A service that enables subscribers to replace the traditional “ringback” tone callers hear with a unique personalized message, music clips, movie lines, sound effects, etc.
- Click-to-Dial Infrastructure: A set of capabilities that enable web-based services with click-to-dial capabilities. This capability could be used by web merchants to connect buyer and seller without needing to reveal either party's phone numbers.
“In today's competitive climate, it is imperative that we differentiate ourselves through the quality of our services and our ability to provide consumers with a richer communications experience,” said Alan Creighton, president and CEO for my people. “We chose solutions from Sonus as the foundation for our network because we have confidence in Sonus' ability to continually innovate and to help us to stay on the cutting edge of communications services.”
“Today's consumers use many tools to communicate: wired and wireless phones, email, and instant messenger services, to name just a few. IP-based technologies allow users to integrate many different ways of communicating into a dynamic, seamless experience that offers greater personalization and customization than ever before,” said Jim Kohlenberger, spokesperson for the Internet Voice Campaign (IVC), a VoIP industry advocacy organization. “Although IP-based voice solutions are starting to gain mainstream awareness, there is still a lot of education that needs to be done to expose consumers to the power and flexibility that these types of services provide,” Kohlenberger continued.
Sonus Networks is a founding member of the IVC, along with other industry leaders including EarthLink, Google, Level 3, Pulver.com, Skype and USA Datanet. The organization is dedicated to raising awareness and educating consumers about the benefits of VoIP solutions, such as the ability to leverage innovative applications and services that go beyond traditional voice offerings.
