Sonus Networks Energizes its Market Momentum in China

Forges Partnership with China Putian to Market Cutting-Edge VoIP Infrastructure Solutions

Beijing, China, November 17, 2004 - Sonus Networks, a leading provider of voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, today announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Putian Capitel Group, a subsidiary of China Putian Corporation. Under the agreement, Putian Capitel will re-sell the full range of Sonus' VoIP infrastructure solutions as well as provide support and consultation to customers in China.

At the agreement signing ceremony in Beijing, Mr. Simon Naylor, Vice President Asia Pacific/Japan of Sonus Networks, said, "We are confident that VoIP, because of its compelling advantages of cost effectiveness, versatility of service offerings and high flexibility, will soon become the mainstream telephony technology. The China market will be one of those hot spots that propels the phenomenal growth of advanced VoIP infrastructure solutions, such as those offered by Sonus."

In a survey commissioned by Sonus Networks at the recent Carriers World 2004 event in the UK, more than 60 percent of the respondents believed that consumer and business VoIP services were already overtaking POTS in terms of traffic generated, whilst the rest noted that while VoIP has not yet surpassed traditional telephony, it will within the next 2 years. In a similar survey conducted at the VON Europe 2004 event in June, 70 percent of the participants indicated that they foresee IP ultimately replacing legacy telephone networks. Industry analysts projected that VoIP telephony customers would represent 40 percent of the worldwide market by 2008. VoIP is also witnessing rapid acceptance in China.

"Our business model of working with strong local partners has successfully helped us make inroads into many markets. Our customers are looking for a company with a one-stop shopping option and the expertise to provide advice on infrastructure purchases," said Mr. Henry Lam, Country Director, China of Sonus Networks. "With its expertise in network infrastructure, profound experience with service providers, and thorough understanding of the local market, Putian Capitel is the best choice to help us tap the burgeoning China market. We believe that we can replicate our winning global formula in China through partnerships with Putian Capitel," commented Lam.

Mr. He Yaoliang, Senior Vice President of Putian Capitel said, "Sonus' award-winning voice infrastructure solutions, including media gateways, softswitches and network management systems, are deployed in major service provider networks worldwide. We are happy to help introduce these cutting-edge and proven solutions to Chinese service providers to benefit their local customers."

"Chinese customers are discerning and they demand best-of-breed telecommunications solutions. The market potential is huge if you can make the right solutions available to the customers. The collaboration between Putian Capitel and Sonus will make this happen," added Yaoliang.

Sonus is a leading provider of VoIP solutions and has been named the market share leader in several segments of the carrier VoIP equipment market by industry research firms. According to the second quarter market share report released by In-Stat/MDR, Sonus is the leader in worldwide high-density voice gateway ports and revenue, as well as total voice gateway ports. Similarly, recent market analysis for Q3 2004 by Synergy Research Group showed that Sonus holds global leadership positions in carrier packet voice ports (all densities), high-density gateway revenues and high-density gateway ports.
