Sonus Networks Expands EMEA Sales Team To Meet Growing Demand For VoIP Services
New appointments support growing industry confidence as service providers expand plans for VoIP in the core and access markets
SWINDON, UK, October 15th 2004 - Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, today announced the expansion of its sales force in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region to respond to the continued development of the EMEA VoIP market and to demonstrate Sonus’ increasing investment to support future and existing clients. The addition of two new sales directors and new appointments to the sales engineering team will support Sonus' efforts to win new business in EMEA, as service providers increasingly look to deploy new VoIP services in both the core of the network and at the access edge.
Richard Dorey has joined Sonus as sales director for EMEA North (which incorporates UK, Eire, Scandinavia and the Baltic states) and brings a strong knowledge of the carrier voice and data markets. Most recently Richard was sales director of northern Europe for Cosine and, in the past, has held roles as managing director of Alcatel's Network Appliance Applications Division and as a global account director for BT. Richard will be based at Sonus' EMEA headquarters in the UK.
Joerg Deibert has joined as sales director for EMEA Central after holding positions as general manager for Central Europe at InfoVista and as strategic alliances manager at Cisco Systems. He has extensive experience working both directly with Central European service providers and with other leading vendors and systems integrators including Cap Gemini, Accenture, DimensionData, and HP. Joerg’s geographical responsibility will include the German, Austrian, Swiss, Russian and Eastern European territories and he will be based in Sonus's German office.
These appointments follow the addition of Tim Ward as senior director of partner management and business development for EMEA in August 2004, and are supported by further additions to the sales engineering team. Frederic Sciscione has joined from Lucent as systems engineer, EMEA South, bringing a deep expertise in both VoIP protocols and broadband access technologies. Harald Klenner has joined as systems engineer for EMEA Central with a strong background in service provider and enterprise customer support including senior roles at 3Com, Arcor, and DBP Telekom. Sonus plans further expansion in EMEA and will be recruiting sales management and engineering staff for the North and Central regions.
“There is an atmosphere of growing confidence in the telecoms industry, driven largely by the adoption of new VoIP platforms that can offer new services and reduce overheads," commented Joop van Aard, vice president sales EMEA, Sonus Networks. "Our own research shows that most people in the industry believe that the PSTN will be completely replaced by IP within ten years, and these new appointments, with their extensive industry and commercial experience, will undoubtedly position us to take advantage of the growing opportunity."
