Sonus Networks Takes Top Honors in Infovision Awards

GSX9000 Open Services Switch Recognized for Excellence in the Public and Private Network Category

WESTFORD, Mass., September 20, 1999 - Sonus Networks, an emerging leader in carrier-class packet telephony solutions, today announced that it has been named a winner in the third annual InfoVision Awards. Sonus' GSX9000 Open Services Switch was selected from a field of hundreds of entrants for the prestigious industry awards, which recognize innovative technologies and services within the communications/information industry.

The InfoVision Awards are presented by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), and honor companies for products and services, introduced in the past year, that have added a new dimension not only to the information industry, but to society as a whole. Award-winning technologies and services were selected based on several criteria, including innovation, uniqueness, market impact, customer benefits, and value to society.

"We are truly honored to have been named one of the 1999 InfoVision award winners," commented Hassan Ahmed, Sonus' president and CEO. "This award underscores the early market acceptance the GSX9000 has gained and highlights Sonus' significant role in helping to redefine the telecommunications industry."

Sonus introduced its innovative Open Services ArchitectureTM and Packet Telephony suite featuring the award-winning GSX9000 Open Services Switch in December 1998. The suite of products has been generally available since June 1999. In July 1999, Frontier Communications selected Sonus' GSX9000 as the exclusive trunking gateway for the carrier's next-generation VoIP network, which is expected to carry 100% of Frontier's voice traffic by year-end 2002.

"This year's InfoVision award winners have clearly earned the accolades and recognition they are receiving," said John Janowiak, IEC Director of Executive Relations. "The entries demonstrate the vision of these companies, which can only be described as leading-edge. The technology advancements demonstrated by these winning entries will have a positive impact on the growth and advancement of the industry."

Awards winners were selected in six distinct categories: Applications and Services; Public and Private Networks; Wireless; Internet; Computer Software; and Satellite. The honored companies were selected by the InfoVision Awards Committees, which include chairpersons, committee members, and executives from manufacturers and service providers; editors of the industry's leading publications; and faculty from prestigious engineering universities. Past recipients of the exclusive awards include Alcatel, Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, Eastman Kodak, GTE Services, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Nortel, NYNEX, Zenith, and many more.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Tuesday, October 26, during the 1999 National Communications Forum. The awards will be one of the highlights of the Information Industry Luncheon, which will feature a keynote address by Robert Annunziata, chief executive officer, Global Crossing.
