Sonus Networks Announces General Availability of Newest Network Border Switch
WESTFORD, Mass., August 6, 2007 – Demonstrating its commitment to transforming communications, Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a leading supplier of service provider Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, today launched the latest version of its Network Border Switch designed to deliver secure connectivity between enterprises and operators, as well as secure connectivity between disparate operators' networks. This tested and validated solution delivers secure business critical voice applications seamlessly across boundaries. When combined with Sonus' trunking, access or wireless solutions, network operators are now able to offer robust network security for all of their voice communications.
Today's voice networks are strategic assets that enable network operators to unlock their investments in Internet Protocol (IP) network to introduce new services rapidly. With the number and sophistication of security threats increasing on a global basis, network operators need a solution that delivers proven business benefits, flexibility in service creation and prevents incidents and disruptions caused by security breaches.
The Sonus Network Border Switch is architecturally designed to improve connectivity between disparate IP networks and allow operators to gain protection, control and visibility over those accessing their networks. Government regulations also add to the growing emphasis on security and the ability of operators to reliably meet evolving regulatory standards.
Ideal for network operators with IP-voice networks at their borders, Sonus solutions not only deliver robust security at the edge of the network, but meet the stringent government regulations, such as Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, (CALEA®), Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) and Enhanced 911 or E911. The introduction of the latest Network Border Switch signals a significant milestone in the evolution of IP-voice communications, which now not only deliver integrated, advanced technology solutions to address critical business issues, but also do so with increased security.
"Adoption of IP technology began in the core of major networks and is working its way out to the edge, requiring a robust peering and security solution that leverages the advantages of IP to interconnect with other network operators," said Vikram Saksena, Chief Technology Officer. "Like the Sonus platform as a whole, the NBS is unique in the market in terms of its ability to scale effectively without sacrificing quality and reliability, which is absolutely essential to maintaining the integrity of the network."
The latest release of the Sonus Network Border Switch, available on both the GSX™9000 and GSX™4000 platforms, includes new features to support direct media, Denial of Service (DoS) protection for access networks and consumer VoIP deployments, advanced encryption support for call set-up, and additional Secure Real Time Protocol (RTP) to protect call content. In addition, the platform upgrade includes new features for advanced management and Operational System Support (OSS) functionality. Additional information about the new features and functionality of the NBS can be found on the Sonus website at http://www.sonusnet.com/contents/products/bordercontrol/nbs.cfm.
