Suddenlink Communications Delivers Geo-Survivable IP Voice and Multimedia Communications Powered by GENBAND

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, New Orleans, October 20, 2010 – GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and service solutions, today announced that Suddenlink Communications, the seventh largest cable operator in the United States, has fully deployed GENBAND’s industry-leading C20™ Converged Softswitch via a geographically survivable telecommunications systems core to provide highly-reliable IP voice and multimedia content to Suddenlink subscribers.

A key driver in Suddenlink’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery preparedness plan, GENBAND’s C20 softswitch now provides Suddenlink with a fully geographically-redundant solution that can deliver ultra-high available residential and business telephony services to all Suddenlink subscribers across 18 states.

“We have enjoyed considerable growth for our residential and business cable voice services over the past few years,” said Terry Cordova, senior vice president and CTO, Suddenlink. “To address this growth and also ensure we continue to offer reliable, best-in-class service, we selected GENBAND to deploy geographic redundancy capabilities so a disaster at any single facility would not impact our subscribers’ communication service. We have come to rely on GENBAND to deliver high-quality IP infrastructure and service solutions to help augment and enhance our own top-notch engineering teams and deliver unsurpassed reliability and scalability to our growing customer base.”

Suddenlink enhanced its network by completing a seamless conversion of its existing C20 core softswitches to a geo-survivable configuration, splitting switch equipment across multiple locations. In the event a disaster such as a hurricane or fire affects one location, the switch equipment at another location can take over and continue service without affecting any active calls or reducing the network’s existing capacity. GENBAND’s Professional Services team partnered with Suddenlink to complete this smooth transformation, with zero impact to Suddenlink’s subscriber voice service during the conversion process.

“Suddenlink is one of the most agile operators in the industry, with an ambitious growth plan that is fueled by innovation, aggressive timelines and a continued focus on providing the highest quality subscriber experience in all that they do,” said Pablo Gargiulo, President of Global Sales, GENBAND. “We are proud to partner with such a forward-looking company and to supply our market-leading C20 softswitch and professional service capabilities, helping Suddenlink to remain competitive and successful.”

GENBAND is also providing Suddenlink with certain Professional Service capabilities to support their geo deployment. GENBAND Professional Services provide expert resources, tools and best practices required to transform networks to IP and assist operators in critical areas, including network planning, capacity optimization, network management, disaster planning and emergency recovery.

GENBAND’s C20 is the most widely deployed softswitch in the industry. According to Infonetics, Synergy, and Dell’Oro, GENBAND is the #1 supplier in the global service provider VoIP market, which includes softswitches, media gateways, session border controllers, media servers and application servers. In 2009, according to Dell’Oro, GENBAND was #1 in the cable VoIP market in terms of softswitch shipments.

GENBAND is exhibiting its market-leading cable solutions at this week’s 2010 SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (booth #2133).
