Many communications service providers are constrained by legacy tandem or transit networks that are expensive to maintain, difficult to extend or past their lifecycles and posing risks. Ribbon's Tandem IP Network Transformation solution provides modern IP-based options, helping service providers offer efficient IP-based interconnects and exploit a flatter tandem/transit network architecture, which significantly reduces recurring power, HVAC, space and staffing costs.

As a leader in network transformation, Ribbon offers an extensive suite of tandem switching solutions based on powerful voice-over-IP platforms deployed globally in legacy TDM, hybrid TDM/IP, and IMS configurations. Ribbon’s tandem switching solutions provide seamless local and access trunk interoperability and eliminate interconnect barriers.

Migration from TDM to IP Peering

For network operators who have TDM interconnects, for at least a portion, if not a majority, of their peering traffic. migrating interconnect traffic from TDM to IP has significant potential savings. As part of this migration a Signaling Only SBC (SO-SBC) can be used to minimize the complexity of the TDM to IP migration. While it is possible to do a flash cutover from legacy TDM gateways to SBCs, it is most often more desirable to plan a more methodical migration spread out over a longer time period. During this migration the SO-SBC can query PSX to support intelligent routing rules to enable graceful traffic management.
