Transforming Trieste’s LightNet Research and Education Network (REN)

The University of Trieste, leading the LightNet cooperation agreement, needed to replace and expand their existing Research and Education Network (REN) to support the increasing demands of high-performance computing-based research. Ribbon Communications provided a comprehensive multilayer packet services and optical transport solution, which includes complete network and service lifecycle management through a single pane of glass. This innovative solution employs a spine and leaf services architecture over an open and flexible optical backbone, ensuring high availability and cost control. The deployment has enabled LightNet to support high-speed connections, private intranet connections, and dedicated 100G connections for HPC and storage facilities.
