Wednesday, April 29th | 9am EDT

You're invited to join Sanjay Bhatia, Dan Teichman and Dwight Morse of Ribbon Communications on Wednesday, April 29th at 9:00am EDT (1:00pm GMT/ 3:00pm CET) for our webinar focused on cloud and edge solutions for Service Providers.

As you know, a little over a month ago Ribbon Communications completed its merger with ECI Telecom. Together, we now have an expanded, innovative solutions portfolio including optical and IP networking, core to edge IP solutions, UCaaS/ CPaaS cloud offers, and leading-edge security and analytics tools to help you.

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the expanded offering, with a focus on the cloud and edge side of the house. Join us as we take you through some of the new solution sets we can offer to you, our service provider customers.

Join us April 29th as we cover all of the below and more:

  • Overview of the combined company and portfolio
  • Cloud Solutions – Advanced secure solutions for cloud and network deployments for secure voice and unified communications services and multiple Session Border Controller applications
  • Edge Solutions – Provide managed services to your enterprise customers and secure and assure your cloud-based communications services to them with Intelligent Edge products
  • Learn how our solutions can be integrated with and bring value to existing networks and to your customers.

WEBINAR: Cloud & Edge Solutions for Service Providers

Wednesday, April 29th | 9am EDT

Cloud & Edge Solutions for Service Providers

This is a representation of a generic service provider Network. The blue circles are very high-level representation of network to network connectivity. This can be any fixed or mobile network operator, it could be a cable network operator, it could be a wholesaler interconnect carrier, it could be a local or regional utility who wants to get into telecommunications. But the majority of our focus will be on IP connectivity and we’re discussing it on the services level. We're going to talk about voice service traffic carried over these interfaces, that again, originates and terminates in any number of consumer business devices or locations.

What does a session border controller do? It provides, first and foremost, security and protocol inter-working for voice over IP for both the signaling and the media. Just consider that with every call that gets made, they is signaling and an actual path with the voice packets that has to go across a network boundary. The SBC is the point of demarcation for all that traffic, whether that traffic is leaving the Service Provider’s Network for IP interconnect partner or a Service Provider using a Public Cloud. It doesn't matter, the SBC is the demarcation point. For this reason, the SBCs are able to scale and they need to deliver feature performance at that scale, and that's something Ribbon does really well.

For example, we have a large Tier 1 Service Provider who in the aggregate is easily supporting tens of thousands of calls per second all of which are running through our session border controllers. They are critical for call to service delivery for these VoIP services and more importantly for the interconnection of those VoIP services. As a market leader, Ribbon has products that can be deployed in the core networks as appliances, in private and public clouds, on virtual machines or as Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). While our SBCs portfolio shares a common feature set. It’s the same features, the same capabilities regardless of your deployment options, and our ability to scale them do performance for those features at scale also applies regardless of deployment model.

The session border controllers are the demarcation point, but is that all you need? The answer is no. What you really need is also a centralized policy and routing solution, like Ribbon’s PSX. The reason why you need centralized policy control and routing is it optimizes the interconnect traffic. Otherwise, each and every SBC would have to make its own routing decisions without the context of the rest of the network topology and other alternate available path. By centralizing this, the network operator can take advantage of multiple things. For starters with a Ribbon PSX, there's over 20+ routing models and the ability to do external database dips in order to support calculations for at least cost routing. Which is a major factor of interconnection, how do I transfer traffic to an interconnected partner at the lowest cost possible?

In addition, because it's centralized, the configuration and routing management becomes significantly more efficient because you don't have to provision routing tables at every session border controller. So when the PSX makes routing decisions, it sends that route selection information is sent to the right session border controller to route the call across the right trunk group for the interconnection. Like the SBC that I just mentioned that central policy and routing solution used to scale and perform all of its features at scale. And like our SBC, one of the very largest Tier 1 network operators today uses a Ribbon PSX to handle approximately 50,000 calls per second and making rounded decisions for each call real time.
