The Future of Unified Communications is Here

December 9th, 2013

One of the most significant technological shifts in the market today is Unified Communications (UC).  Enterprises are looking to UC to redefine what it means to collaborate, on both an internal and external basis.  By accessing communication services such as voice, data and video conferencing via a single platform, companies can increase efficiency and productivity, and enhance interaction with key stakeholders as well as lower CapEx and OpEx. One of the most exciting aspects of UC is its flexibility to enable a wide range of enterprise technologies to meet diverse budgetary and business needs.   Furthermore, companies have a wide range of UC platform choices, such as Microsoft Lync, and deployment model flexibility, including on-premises, hybrid or UC delivered via the cloud.

One Source Networks (OSN) is a cloud and managed services provider serving the Fortune 1000 market. We help our customers realize the promise of Unified Communications by looking at UC service delivery from a holistic perspective – one that considers both the carrier and enterprise network.  We also take into account the unique requirements of our customers and ensure that the technology used enables them to maximize UC return on investment (ROI).

In order to better serve our customer base, we recently announced deployment plans for five new international points of presence (PoPs) in London, Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong and Bogotá.  These new PoPs will enable us to expand our global reach via interconnection with leading regional carriers, ensuring that critical business traffic is delivered more quickly and efficiently.

A critical part of a successful UC deployment is a Session Border Controller (SBC); it enables the groundwork for Unified Communications delivery.  One of the fastest growing UC platforms is Microsoft Lync, however many SBCs are unable to support the solution.  According to a January 2013 Webtorials report “Enterprises Place 2013 Unified Communications Bets,” three out of four enterprises have fully or partially deployed UC environments.  Support for Microsoft Lync, as well as HD voice, was a key requirement for our deployment, and support for this capability enables OSN’s customers to easily tap into an integrated communication and collaboration platform.

The Sonus SBC portfolio – with full support for Microsoft Lync – allows us to scale with our customers, while delivering quality of service for their most latency-sensitive applications such as voice.  The future of Unified Communications is here, and OSN is at the forefront, providing our customers with the secure, reliable and scalable service delivery that enables them to meet their UC goals.

What helps make your UC deployment successful? I would love to hear your feedback.
