James Sylvester and Mick Reeve Strengthen GENBAND'S Advisory board with Strong LEC and PTT Experience

September 27, 2006, Plano, TX - GENBAND™ Inc., a leading provider of IMS-based telecommunications applications and infrastructure products enabling converged IP multimedia services, announced today that telecom industry luminaries James Sylvester and Mick Reeve have joined GENBAND’s Advisory Board.

“Both James Sylvester and Mick Reeve have tremendous experience developing, testing, and deploying some of the largest communications networks in the world,” said Charles Vogt, president and chief executive officer of GENBAND. “Each has strong experience commercializing new technologies and applications and this experience will be very beneficial to our team as we continue to position GENBAND as a strategic supplier of IMS-based infrastructure products and multimedia applications.”

James Sylvester has over three decades of experience in the design, development, testing and implementation of telecommunications networks. Most recently, Mr. Sylvester was vice president, Systems Integration and Testing of Verizon’s Engineering and Technology Group. In this role, he managed Verizon’s ISO-certified labs for the testing of new products and services prior to their placement in Verizon’s commercial telecom and business networks. Prior assignments with Bell Atlantic, AT&T, and Bell Telephone Laboratories included representing Bell Atlantic in Czechoslovakia on regulatory reform, managing technical regulatory and privacy issues before the FCC and U.S. Congress, managing the introduction of the 5ESS to the Bell Operating Companies, and designing and testing earlier Electronic Switching Systems. Mr. Sylvester completed his MBA degree at the University of Chicago following a MSEE at Stanford University and BSEE at Kansas State University. Mr. Sylvester has eight patents awarded or pending and previously served on the Board of NACLA, National Cooperative for Laboratory Accreditation, who oversees certification of the nation’s testing laboratories.

“GENBAND has built a solid reputation for successfully developing and deploying purpose-built IP-based solutions for large-telco networks,” said James Sylvester. “The company’s products and applications are deployed today at some of the largest networks in the world. As the company continues to broaden its multimedia infrastructure and applications deployments with tier-1 carriers, functions such as testing, integration, and support will become even more important for success. I plan on helping the GENBAND team further build upon its large-telco deployment success and ensure that the company is well positioned for even wider scale, rapid deployment.”

Mick Reeve has an extraordinary track record in technical innovation, including over 36 years at British Telecom (BT). Recently retired from BT and now working as an industry consultant, Mr. Reeve was most recently Chief Architect responsible for BT's overall network and systems architectures. He also led the standards program, directing the architecture for BT’s 21st Century Network and ensuring its alignment with global standards. While at BT, Reeve held a wide range of design and development jobs, including optical systems, switching and intelligence, and operational support systems. He also served as a board member of the Telemanagement Forum, the WiMAX Forum and ATIS. Mr. Reeve has published widely in the telecom field and holds a number of patents in optical communications. Mick is a Fellow of the IEC and a Fellow of the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering.

“One of the biggest challenges facing incumbent services providers is migrating to next-generation networks while remaining standards-based and open for easy and quick deployment of new multimedia applications,” said Mick Reeve. “GENBAND has put together a strong portfolio of IMS-based infrastructure products and multimedia applications that are proven to be carrier grade. This product set can be integrated and deployed as an end-to-end solution, or partnered with larger equipment maker solutions. I intend to help the GENBAND team identify opportunities to continue and broaden its application and solution while maintain its open environment and filling product gaps for key strategic equipment partners.”
