Sonus Networks' Gsx9000 Open Services Switch Featured in Global Crossing Booth at Telecom '99

WESTFORD, Mass., October 8, 1999 - Sonus Networks, an emerging leader in carrier-class packet telephony solutions, today announced that it will be participating at the world's leading telecommunications event, Telecom '99 + Interactive '99, with Global Crossing Ltd. (Nasdaq: GLBX). At the Telecom '99 exhibition, which will be held October 10-17, Global Crossing will showcase Voice over IP (VoIP) solutions including the Sonus GSX9000TMOpen Services Switch and Lucent Technologies' Softswitch. These systems form the foundation of Global Crossing's next-generation VoIP network, which is currently being rolled out in the United States.

Telecom '99 + Interactive '99 will host more than 1,000 exhibitors and 200,000 attendees, and is being held at the PALEXPO in Geneva, Switzerland. The Global Crossing exhibit is located in the U.S. Pavilion in Hall 1, at Booth 1130.01C.

"Telecom '99 is the premier international telecommunications event and Sonus is absolutely thrilled to join Global Crossing in their exhibition," said Gary Rogers, vice president of sales and marketing for Sonus Networks. "This venue affords a unique opportunity to highlight the partnerships and leading-edge technologies that are making Global Crossing's "One Planet, One Network" vision a reality."

"Global Crossing's mission is to create the world's most advanced global IP-based network, which will link major businesses and population centers," commented Allan VanBuhler, vice president of new product development, Global Crossing. "The development of our new VoIP network is central to that goal, and we're excited to be working with Sonus at Telecom '99 to demonstrate these next-generation capabilities."

In July 1999, Frontier Communications, which recently completed its merger with Global Crossing, selected Sonus' GSX9000 as the exclusive trunking gateway for the carrier's next-generation VoIP network. This new IP-based network is expected to carry 100% of Global Crossing's U.S. voice traffic by year-end 2002 and also provides Global Crossing with a software services creation platform, whereby new products will be developed in the network and deployed quickly and economically. New services enabled by the network include the world's first truly unified messaging platform and IP virtual private networks (VPNs). Additionally, Global Crossing's VoIP network will support the company's existing services including paging, 800 services, credit card calls, Internet server, local telephone service and more.

Global Crossing has currently deployed its VoIP network in a three-city production trial in the United States. The company expects to deploy Sonus' GSX9000 and Lucent's Softswitch in 20 cities by August 2000, allowing Global Crossing to serve the entire U.S. market.
