Max Capacity 140Gbaud Submarine Transport

Most Services per Undersea Link

Maximizing spectral capacity is the principal metric for submarine coherent optical transport, as adding new fibers incurs significant cost. Ribbon’s Apollo optical transport system optimizes capacity for any subsea distance and fiber condition by integrating programmatic controls for continuous baud rate adjustment to 140Gbaud, flexible modulation with advanced probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS), and spectral roll-off shaping.

Using its Apollo super channel and CIM 8 technologies, Ribbon announced the successful optical transmission of an impressive 20Tbps over the JUNO trans-Pacific cable.

Apollo Submarine Transport Capabilities

Apollo submarine transport supports the following notable capabilities:

  • Deployment at the cable landing stations or nearby data centers

  • Super channels which boost fiber capacity by about 10%
  • Spectrum sharing where multiple operators can share fiber resources without interfering with each other
  • Integrated optical performance monitoring
  • NE management through Muse Multilayer Automation Platform or directly through open APIs
