Observations from Telco Cloud World Forum
This week I am attending and speaking at the Telco Cloud World Forum in Munich Germany. Hot topics at the conference include Cloud Technologies; Public, Private and Hybrid Telco Clouds; and go-to- market strategies for service provider cloud services. With recognized brands ranging from Deutsche Telekom to Telefonica to Orange and BT in attendance, Telco Cloud World Forum is a great venue for GENBAND to highlight our thought leadership in the areas of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN).
NFV will play a significant role in boosting the pace of the evolution of telecom networks. But if network operators are to realize the full potential of NFV, they must incorporate advanced concepts of cloud and SDN, including orchestration and elastic scalability.
GENBAND has been progressively evolving all of our technology toward software-based deployment models – the foundation of NFV. As a company we are closely involved in the progression of the NFV movement and fully committed to evolving our already cloud-ready solutions to NFV in lockstep with our customers’ requirements. Our comprehensive real-time communications services portfolio supports NFV capabilities across several products, including the EXPERiUS™, QUANTiX™, SPiDR™ WebRTC Gateway and NUViA™ Cloud solutions families.
Some of my observations from the conference and on where the industry is with regards to NFV include the clear acceptance that cloud services and technologies are key for service providers becoming agile in the deployment of new services; and the short-term challenges are not simply about the technical implementation of cloud services, but also about getting the go-to-market strategies right. The trials and case studies presented by some operators also demonstrated key learnings on the NFV and SDN fronts.
I look forward to participating in a panel discussion on Who is Winning the Cloud Infrastructure Race and Why?. During the session my co-panelists and I will address topics such as What is the dominant model for Telco Cloud and why?; What are the different perspectives on Public versus Private versus Hybrid Cloud models? What are the pros and cons of these models?; and Is it just about scale when it comes to public Cloud?
