A Quick Look at How GENBAND Day Came About

With GENBAND Day 2012 fast approaching I believe it is valuable to look back at how such a unique day came about. While many companies are committed to some level of social responsibility, what is truly unique about GENBAND is that we not only empower our employees to give back to the non-profit organizations and charities that the mean most to them, but invest in a full day for them to do so.

On June 1st, 2010, GENBAND completed the historic acquisition of a major division of Nortel, which increased our company’s size four-fold. On that day, GENBAND CEO Charlie Vogt created an annual employee holiday, GENBAND Day, in recognition of the event. After many discussions and suggestions from employees, the company decided to not only have GENBAND Day serve as a holiday, but as an opportunity to provide organized community service in all locations. On a completely volunteer basis, fully-funded by GENBAND, employees in various locations organize local opportunities to spend the day serving the communities in which GENBAND operates around the world.

Our first annual Global Day of Service resulted in GENBAND employees volunteering more than 5,000 hours that benefited 65 charities in 16 countries and this year we’re committed to volunteering more than 10,000 hours!

GENBAND’s culture is truly unique. I could not be more proud to be a part of a global company that can maintain its entrepreneurial spirit through a commitment to year-round volunteerism.  Please visit our Global Day of Service page to see how our employees from all corners of the world are giving back to the communities in which they live and work!
