GENBAND Day 2014 – What an Awesome Day!

May 30th, 2014

Wow.  I can honestly say that I haven’t experienced too many days like GENBAND Day 2014.  GENBAND Day is a once a year holiday we give to our employees and encourage them to then give that time back to their communities.

I personally had the opportunity to spend time at three amazing non-profit organizations.  I started the day at 4:30 am in order to get to the Ronald McDonald House in downtown Dallas early enough join 25 other enthusiastic GENBAND volunteers who were just as anxious as I was to serve breakfast to the kids and residents.    This is my third year volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House.  I always enjoy serving the kids and families and they are so appreciative.  It is a charity that is near and dear to both my heart and GENBAND’s as well.  Each year our company donates proceeds from our charity golf tournament to them.  They are such a great organization to work with.

From the Ronald McDonald House I went to the Dallas Zoowhere around 20 GENBAND employees had already begun building chairs from recycled wooden pallets.   It really put the Engineering minds of the team to the test because each chair definitely had its own personality.  The cool thing is that our initial goal was to build one chair and we ended up building two!   Major high five to the rest of the GENBAND team.

I then had lunch with my family and proceeded to the Plaza Senior Center in Richardson where my oldest daughter Grace accompanied me.   We had such a good time visiting with the residents and helping to spread good cheer.  It was so amazing to see the smiles on the residents’ face and the fun that the GENBAND volunteers and their families were having interacting with them.  My daughter also thought it was an incredible experience and I am so glad that I could share it with her. What an awesome day.

Our corporate Twitter feed is full of photos and Tweets from other GENBAND volunteers who are sharing their #GENBANDDay experiences.  It is so cool to be a part of a global team of such giving people – from the CEO all the way down to the interns who are serving their first week with the company!
